Evening Guys And Gals,
Can anyone help or advise with an issue I have with the current discovery 3 I have. I’ve owned discovery's for a number of yearsand bought this one on a well known auction site but it has an issue. It won’t rev over 2 and half thousand in any gear. The mechanic I use said it was injectors, so I changed them.Still the same, has anyone else had this issue. Please help before I tear my hair out.
Regards seanyboy

As our crystal balls are malfunctioning what engine is it ? What year ? Any other symptoms ? Will it run well without load ?

Pop over to the intro thread and do the stuff, there's a good lad - oh you did, great .

Hiya it’s the TDV6 on a 2004 plate. It runs like a watch but no power at all. As I said runs too 2 and a half thousand and then that’s it. It’s had the EGR’s removed as they all do. The annoying thing is it comes and goes, one day it will rev through no problem, then an alarm will flash up... engine system fault. Then it’s in limp mode again. Other days doesn’t get out of that

I'm not sure you'll get away with removing the EGR's. The engine management will not get their info and will run in limp mode. Get new EGR's and have the crank sensor changed.

If you have to have the EGR's removed, leave them in place and fit blanking plates, clean the sensors first, and those on the MAP sensor. Also the in-tank pump can give similar problems.

Egrs wont stop it revving and crank sensor is an engine out job so dont go there either!
Egr removal/blanking will not bring up the engine light.
You will need to get the fault codes read.

Manual or auto?

when I initially took it to the garage it had 83 fault codes, cleared loads and then came the injectors code. So changed them.... still the same unfortunately. EGR’s all blanked

What were the injector fault codes?

Have you checked for fuel pressure at the test point?

Plus 1 what the other members have said

When EGRs are blanked a software patch is only req for D3s 2007 onwards

As also mentioned ensure the LP fuel pressure is ok , should be around 7.25 psi at the test point

Other things to check

Fuel filter is oem and clean
Turbo actuator isn’t jammed up
MAP sensor is clean
When EGRs were blanked ensure the butterfly valve was removed
EGR pipes are normally left on and a blanking plate fitted between the engine block and pipes , this is for the new MOT rules
Assume the air filter is clean

Here’s also a link ref how the LP fuel line is tested

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic130062.html?highlight=low+pressure+fuel+pump

Plus please let us know what these injector fault codes were that @lynall asked about , plenty here to help :D

Hope it helps and plse let us know how it goes

Not sure to be honest as I’ve entrusted it with the mechanic.... I’d hope that would be a standard procedure to check. I’ll ask him and see what’s what

Im not suggesting your mech is no good, but theres quite a bit of insider knowledge needed with the d3/4 and its well worth searching on the d3/4 forum, especially their wiki section.

Ant that the truth ref knowledge , there was one a little while ago, his D3s dashboard lit up like a Xmas tree, spluttering and intermittent errors , he had cleaned his map sensor and wasn’t clicked back in properly

Even seen where a brake light pedal switch can cause all sorts of issues

Still think a diagnostic reader is a must for one of these vehicles

Hope all is going well mate
