I carry all the normal spares as in fuel filter, oil filter, Oil itself, bonnet release cable, jump leads ,fuses, spanners hammers ,tow ropes ,speedo cable, relays ,heat shrink, Haynes manual , etc etc etc and my wife (but she is not going in the box well not yet )
you get my drift I would rather do a home made lockable box that would be able to secure to the roof rack I'm sure its been done ,so in essence secure and lockable would appreciate any ideas please. so I can free up space in the 90 its a H plate by the way the roof rack is a Rhino if that helps

Is this enough inspriation??

Don’t underestimate water getting in. Worth thinking about storage options in the back as a way of stream lining things

There is your first problme!
To carry all of the spares a land rovers requires for day to day running you need a 110 as a minimum :D

Being an H plate I am assuiming you have the underseat tank so filling the seat box with tool sis out of the question? I would still try and fit as much into the vehicle as possible before looking to mount things onto it. as stated above water will get into it no matter how well it is waterproofed.

There is a lot of space behind the seats between the bulkhead. I have jump leads, tow rope, breaker bar, bottle jack, hatchet, bow saw, entrenching tool etc behind there. So you could fit a lot of the gear you have listed tidily behind seats.
Fuses and tyre valves live in the ashtray in the centre of the dash top.
Spare parts live in the battery box (alternator belt, lift pump, fuel filter etc) you could also fit the speedo and bonnet cable in there that you carry (although if you convert your bonnet release to a series style front mount one or loop the release cable through the grill rather than into the footwell you will not need to carry this as they will no longer beak)

All that leaves you with to find a home for are the oil itself and the spanners/hammers. I have these in the underseat tool box because I have a 110. But depending on what you have in the back of yours one of my friends has removed one of the rear folding seats (leaving three) and has a nice single jerry can holder with an open box next to it which he keeps his socket set and haynes manual in.
If you have and use all of the rear seats you could store things behind them between the seat and the tub side. On mine this is where I have more tow ropes, ratchet straps, jerry can spout, umbrellas etc. There are lots of large spaces to be utilised in the interior of a defender before I would consider mounting things outside where they need to be properly weather proofed. Things need enough weather proofing inside without adding more!

When scrutineered at any of the off road events at local club meets, any loose items would have to be removed or tied down so that they could not be an isue in an accident, having a lockable box makes life easier. Even greenlaning it is preferred not to have loose items that can become a hazard if an incident happens. Items in the battery box unless tied down I always worry could be an issue if they come into contact with the live terminal and short out on bouncy ground. But if you never venture off road then not really a problem.

Cheers

You should get an A frame and tow a doner vehicle behind you. The only spare thing I carry is a lighter in case my main one runs out of gas. This happened to me once in the middle of nowhere, I nearly had a nervous breakdown.

Where as I agree things should be secured with the seats as far back as they go against the bulkhead (as I assume every land rover driver has them!) there is no chance of anything coming out from behind there. Even with the seat folded forward it is sometimes still a challenge to get what I need.
With the battery I have fitted and the additional relays/fuses/isolator solenoid there is very little space for things to move around when everything is packed. I also have an insulating cap over the live terminal. I regularly go green laning and have now completed two trips around morocco with this set up with no problems. Everything is also still boxed and bagged so there is no bare metal parts to short out.
