Lightweight developed tinny rattle when coasting in gear!?

Hi all,

Remember that lightweight I painted Kermit green by accident?

Well she looks better now in bronze green but I've noticed recently that when I coast in gear (i.e ease off the gas) I hear a quiet yet tinny rattling from below driver's seat area.

What could this be and should I be concerned!? Otherwise driving totally fine!

Tips on where to look welcome!

You could look at the handbrake linkage. somethings loose rattling against the fuel tank, loose fuel level sender, loose fuel tank mounting bolt. Difficult to find if it only does it when you're moving. Nice Lightweight by the way.

Cheers Wireman. If I take it out of gear while rolling the noise stops, so I'm thinking gear box?

Probably worth a crawl underneath when it's not peeing down for obvious loose bolts or such. That and help from someone such as @jamesmartin or @dieseldog69 might be able to offer more technical help.

Fuel sender can tap in a tank

Well I ain't no mechanic, but I have next week off work if ya want a hand trying to sort the issue..........

When I rebuilt my gearbox and ran it in gear without the prop attached I had a tinny rattle and was worried, Thea answer I git back was with the prop on and a bit of load on gbox all will be fine , and it was.

I wish I could hear a tinny rattle, all I get is a cochopheny of clangs, bangs and loud rattles.

I’m also concerned if it’s s series at all.
Mine sounds like a tinkers scrap box when stationary, never mind when moving.

It is a waste of time/life trying to track down every little rattle and squeek on an old landy.

Thanks all! Your casual nonchalance towards such sounds has filed me with confidence! The obvious answer is not to take my foot of the gas!

Also I acquired a second lightweight off fleabay very cheap and it drives better than my nice one!!!

We wear ear defenders, especially on the motorway, protects our hearing and my sanity / anxiety. I'm confident the serious noises will get through...
Recently my "its a disaster I'll need a rebuild" noises have been - the bonnet rattling, a strap on the roof rack, a screw on the tunnel just touching the OD linkeage, my metal cup in the metal cupholder on the dash (I have a bike water bottle carrier screwed to the dash as a cup holder) and yesterday on a run back from Portsmouth , my son playing a game on his tablet with the volume on full (because he had ear deferders on). The overdirve whines but only off load, accelerating or decellerating keep it quiet, simple to fix - we only accelerate or decelerate, never coast in OD, job done!

Going on and off load intermediate gear in transfer case can thrust forward and back maybe needs shimming.

I had a bit of a rattle like that. It turned out the front prop shaft was knackered where the two halves slid in & out of each other.
