A 109 Lightweight ! Is it a Production model ?

I found this strange beast whilst fantasising about things I can't afford on ebay. I thought I would share it with you as I've never seen or known about it's existence before.

Is it a production model or someones warped mind coming out in their garage?

Never heard of it myself, but it's a Santana, so maybe they built them and Land Rover in the UK didn't?

Yes, a production vehicle.

Says possibly not for sale in GB in the text.

It was built by Santana and sold in military markets who were not on the UK's friends list.

Did they sell many? Looks like a waste of effort really , not particularly lightweight and no different from the regular model in terms of cumbersomness (possibly made up word).........

I think that they were designed to be simple and rugged rather than light.

The UK built Lightweight was never actually called that by LR or our military, they all knew it as the Air Portable. The main reason for it's difference was the need to fit them two abreast into a Bristol aircraft (Beverley I think). Unbolting all the upper panels made it possible to stack two onto a pallet.

I quite like it, it has a function cool look!
