Brackets are welded to the axle. As far as I can determine these brackets are available as a weld on replacement for earlier Defenders/Series models but not for the Puma?.

Get in touch with YRM. They will help you out. Send a photo on an email too, it helps no end identify exactly what you need.

Thanks. Not sure about the exact situation myself. Vehicle had poly bushes fitted to lower rear shockers and the mechanic advised the cups which are part of the rear axle that the shockers sit in are badly rusted. He also advised these cups are not available as a replacement part. If they were they would need welding onto the axle. I have looked on YRM web site and they sell rear axle shocker mounts their part numbers 031 and 032 @ £10.50 each. These brackets are very similar to the brackets welded to my axle but they do not have the cups. I am advised in the next year or two the problem will need addressing. Solutions as far as I understand as replacement cups are not available are to replace the rear axle or cut the cups off and fit a different type of shock absorber.

Any ideas?

Mike

The cup's I think you are about come with replacement shocks/dampers.They are not welded to the axle but two of them have a lip that sits in the hole in the bracket.
If the hole in the bracket has worn over time [common problem] then a washer with the right size center hole can be welded in place.

I don’t know what type of shock a Puma uses, but I would order one from YRM and make it fit, or go to a local steel supplier, purchase a piece of plate and make my own. I can do my own fabricating, so that’s easy for me say that. You may be in a different situation?

Post a photo on here of the part you are concerned about.

Thanks, Sorry hopeless with camera, computers etc so unable to upload photo, however I have found a video on youtube.

"Land Rover Defender shock absorber bush change by Andrew Reid". From about 1.13 you can see the cup that the bush fits into. There is an identical cup on the top of the bracket also. The mechanic said the cups are welded to the bracket but I guess by the time they are ready to be replaced they will be solid with rust and may give the impression they are welded. If you are correct the only way to obtain new cups is to buy new shocks?.

Mike

If the cups have been on long enough to rust that much then the shocks are probably done as well. See my previous post about bracket repair.
