so my trusty 300tdi has some rot that I hadn’t spotted until mot time, big fail on my part especially after the amount of work I’ve done to it but I’ve decided to go for a D2 rather than get the welding done.

I’m assuming eBay is the place to sell it, any idea what I should be asking? It needs a new inner wing and possibly some bits around that. There are other areas that could be looked at too such as the rear of the sills and a bit around the arch on the boot floor but that doesn’t look serious.

It’s either that or take the good bits off and sell separately, it’s had tons of new stuff over the last couple of years so it would be a shame to scrap it all, sadly the tank guard, rock sliders and steering guard etc don’t look like they’ll fit the D2.

Problem with a failed MOT is that everyone thinks 'what else is wrong with it'? so price is hard to judge.

Personally I'd take the new bits or good bits off and keep or ebay them separately and sell the rest, keeping it as a runner, failed MOT. Before that though, I'd have a proper look at the usual places for rus, Boot floor, fuel tank strap, suspension mount area of the chassis, rear and other chassi cross members, outriggers and body mounts. I'd also remove the carpets to properly check the floors. Doing this will give you (hopefully) confidence that it's either not bad and can still be fixed, or that it isn't worth it to you and then it's your decision to part it, whatever .. or simply take it and weigh it in at a scrappers!

I got £100+ for mine with nackered (Old 90) axles, no gearboxes or engine, al the internals wasted etc etc, some windows missing and a load of crap stuffed in the back ... ;) I'd swapped all the good stuff to my 90, or to my spares pile .. ;)

It would be a real shame to break it, it’s been no trouble at all to me, never let me down and starts first time every time, have been all over the place in it. My circumstances have changed and the D2 being a bit safer and a nicer place to be was in my mind anyway, this just gave me the reason to do it. The chassis on the D1 looks spot on as far as I can see. It hasn’t actually failed, I just didn’t take it for one having seen the hole.

Would see if I could get a simple repair done to get it through an mot but cost vs reward and how much it would affect the value of an honest sale is another thing entirely.

You break it properly you can make quite a bit more.
It doesn't look in need of breaking, it would be a shame.

No it doesn't, but looking at the picture it's hard to tell if he has sace and time to break it. I have a mate in the next village with a 200Tdi Disco he started to break many years ago ... he sold the engine, gearboxes and axles and a couple of windows etc .. he's left with an immovable shell ... Mind, he also cba to borrow a trailer to scrap it either!

A nine inch grinder can turn that shell to a pile of crap that fits in the back of his new Disco pretty quick. ;)
It would be a shame to see it broke. It is all a question of money no doubt
I would guess it is worth £5-900 as it sits, depending on the wind blowing rigth and the
charity of your fellow human
It is almost certainally a MOT fail BTW. it is highly unlikely that is all the rust.

Get it through the MOT and the price has probably gone up a lot, I'd chance an MOT, just say nothing and see what happens. The hole looks mostly cosmetic and not structural, so it might not fail. Surface rust, unless it can be poked through, is nothing to worry about from an MOT point of view. MOT looks at safety of fittings and structural integrity. With no other issues it ought to go through, I reckon .. unless there are unknown issues, but I'd say the £50 would be well spent to find out for sure!

That is exactly why I didn’t bother getting into it, if you can do it yourself I’m sure it’s not the end of the world to do but I just don’t have the time or inclination, have a new toy to waste time and money on!

Enjoy the new toy, If your heart is not in the old one with Winter coming then do the following.

Strip the goodies off of the old one and flog them, only way you will got your money for them.
Find someone to take the old one on as a project. You can even offer them the goodies as a separate deal.

Cheers

You will probably get £600 for it as it sits, don't bother to break it-more trouble than its worth on ebay. Just deal with 1 buyer and get rid of it.

This is what's great about Landyzone .. we all have different experiences and ideas and all offer our own thoughts, all that bit (lot) different. At least people get a choice .. :)

Up to 900 quid.... You're getting ripped off. The last three discoverys I bought were 970 for all three:eek:

didn't want to hurt the guys feelings
and I did give a range and a guide to likelyhood as well
But as long as you got a laff out of it, it is all good

Personally if it were me I'd have a good look over it for ten minutes and give it an honest appraisal. I'd say between 3-600 depending upon how vague your description and photos are, sometimes less detail equals more money...

You just want to score another cheap fairly good looking disco for a half curly wurly and a purple skittle
Believe me I don't. There was a series 3 109 on eBay the other day and I had to sit on my hands and not bid. I've got jobs to do at home before I buy anything else and it'll certainly be closer to home than Essex unless it's proper cheap.
