Disco 1 300tdi +2" turrets affecting air intake

How have you peeps overcome the air inlet pipe being compressed/worn away by the front shock absorber when using +2" turrets?

Made a baffle/wear plate/guard from a bit of alloy plate, tie-wrapped around the inlet pipe. This still wears away, but after a few months undo the tie wraps and move it around .. Cheap and simple sacrifical plate, but it worked, then went back to standard height turrets after a year or so.

that still compresses the inlet pipe tho

Mine didn't, sheet of ally, think it was 3mm, about 75mm wide, 200+mm long, bent to form a cylinder, tie wrapped on. It might deflect the pipe a little after a while, but not enough to matter.

Maybe a TD5 style pipe that's solid plastic?

I haven't fitted it yet but I've got an abs snorkel for my non abs disco mainly for this reason. After looking at a mates that has the same snorkel but standard turrets it looks like he could fit +2 turrets and avoid the intake pipe because of the air box being relocated up and towards the motor a bit. Worth a look I think if you can find any pics

will keep an eye out for that - ta.

Here ya go MAD HAT MAN! It's worked for me anyway, I hope this helps others in the same predicament
It's just to say resting on the turret but it's not going to rub thru going on how much the engine rocks when I rev 'er up
You just need to chop the original locating pins off to fit the plate

YES I KNOW NOTHING IS SEALED AND THESE ARE STILL THE ORIGINAL SHOCKS BUT THIS WAS JUST DONE FOR A TRIAL TO MAKE SURE THIS SET UP WOULD WORK

Whats the plate, fitted onto the airbox?

It comes with an abs snorkel, to move the air box to make room for the pipe to go down the side. At first I just pulled the airbox out of its place and just left it sat about where it is now but not held in by anything and it was fine to be honest, but I thought at the time it would be easy to make a bracket or 2 to hold it where ya need it. I've a pic somewhere...

I can't find the pic I was looking for but you can see here there's plenty of holes around where the airbox pushes in to maybe make a bracket or 2 then bolt or even rivnut into place, there's even 1 threaded hole to set you off

But I'm guessing some of this may depend on the turret design, I think these were adrenaline but not sure cos I was given them and extended the bottoms cos they were standard height

Contact means wear. Vibration. I would make a guard of some sacrificial material if the contact can't be rectified. in my opinion.

Nah, But I am sure you have something lying about.
It is common to protect hydraulic lines and other ancillarys with rubber, wire ties,
no doubt for a classier application one can come up with something

All of which is correct, obvious, but doesnt help one bit. The purpose of the thread is to try and find answers, not repeat the problem.

find a bit of 5-10 mill of rubber, a punch if you want to be classy and some fancy colour coded wire ties
attach. I am sorry I can't be bothered to 'design it'
But I am confident in your abilities

I am, also, confident in my abilities, but your solution is not practical for several reasons. I will post pics later, but thought I already had.

Than heat shape it, and than you will have to reinforce it
It isn't hard enough to heat shape I assume
