Disco 1 Immobiliser Question - anyone seen this style before?

I picked up a 1998 Disco1 a couple of weeks back and it came with a LR immobiliser (photos attached). I've never seen one that doesn't just work off the 2 button fob before. Any thoughts on this one?

You asked about this device a couple of days ago on the General board and received no reply there either.
I would suggest that even though the packaging does carry the LR logo it's some kind of aftermarket device.
Maybe if you took yourself along to a Land Rover Main stealer and asked them you might get some answers.

Thanks for the info! The part number is really helpful and has lead to me a useful thread on another forum discussing the device. It appears it was a LR replacement for the spider which was prone to failure, but to keep immobilising function instead of just bypassing it.

Judging by the google pictures I would say that you are quite correct in your assumption.
It looks like it's an immobiliser originally for the 'fender but could also be used on the 300tdi Disco 1.
Looking at some of the scant information on the web I'd say that the receiver unit connects somehow to the spider behind the dash and immobilises the engine.
I don't know the security system on the D1, the D2 is more intergrated but I presume that the two button fob controls the central locking, so a separate engine immobiliser was available as an optional extra at a cost of about £300.

Perhaps the OPs D1 is an import from Japan to the UK. Exported D1s to the the Japanese market the security system fitted didn’t include an immobiliser, therefore if the vehicle returned back to the UK. to give the security a Cat 2 status, if required the a Land Rover stand alone immobiliser kit was fitted.

Although it has been known for the kit to be used on a D1 that have a faulty ‘spider’ nab the owner required to retain an immobiliser.
All early days, as now the ‘spider’ function would be by-passed/ overridden.

Oh it's still a green box but as it started working one day completely out of the blue and I didn't have any fobs for it, I disconnected it and rewired the stop solenoid

And finally no issues l bet, and all down to that bit of wire.

It was indeed a replacement from LR for when the smart spider packed up. I remember fitting one to a 300TDI Defender back when all the insurance companies were making a fuss about immobilisers etc. There was a reader device which was fitted inside the column shroud. I hated ,(And still do) fitting accessories, but it seemed well made and was definitely a LR part.

I didn't even know it was still connected until one day out of the blue it decided to switch itself one (fortunately I was at home and off work) But yes it is now completely redundant and all rewired
