Angle grinder cutting discs

I haven't done much cutting with my angle grinder so far, and today had to do half a dozen 6" straight(ish) cuts.

I tried a narrow 1.6mm 120mm disc that I had laying about. It was alright for half a cut, but then the metal insert in the centre stripped out so I stopped using it.

I then used a 3mm 115mm disc. The centre piece held up for the rest of the cutting, but the 3mm felt a bit thick for cutting.. ?

Is there a material or make of cutting disc that cuts quick and clean? Are 1mm discs faster, and strong enough? What do you use?

I'm starting on the welding on my 2A soon so I'm going to be doing a lot more cutting..
 
As @jamesmartin says, 1mm discs. Provided you don't force them too hard they cut very straight, very quickly but do wear faster than others .. However, they do what they say on the tins and end up being cheaper overall than thicker discs. Seriously though, only for cutting/slitting edge on, absolutely no use for grinding ... ;)

I've cut everything from 10mm plate down with the cheapest Screwfix can do, they're basically a consumable in my view, especially when they're on offer at about 25p each ... then I buy 'some' ... ;)

That's OK my trusty Bosch angle grinder takes both sizes;)

We deliver bottled water to their Milton Keynes store and they have three to four artic loads a week (26 pallets per load):eek:. It's the only store delivery we do and according to their staff the water tastes horrible in Milton Keynes so they sell literally tonnes of it
