Hi All,
So, I am the proud owner of an old Landrover 110 SW V8 1986 which has been dry stored for circa 15 years. In a mad moment of brain relapse I decided to restore the old girl. So far all has been going well and now near completion. Sadly the engine is suffering low oil pressure when hot, whilst cold pressure is as it should be but drops off when hot at idle. Please note it's only done 117,000 miles.
Before deciding to do a complete engine rebuild I thought it might be worth checking out the oil pump etc. My question is, is it possible to remove the oil pump and drive gears without removing the distributor and timing cover and refit?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Just as a side thought. If you are contemplating a rebuild. Consider sourcing a 3.9-4.6. The low CR 3.5 makes way less HP.

What oil are you using? The RV8 doesn't like thin modern stuff or synthetic, a quality 20/50 might see you right.

yes ,dont forget to prime pump with petroleum jelly when refitting, though its seldom just a pump if relief valve is working ok

Cheers, I'll do an oil change first and see what difference that makes, might also check the pressure relief valve and spring as well. With that in mind, can that be checked/changed without having to remove the pump and save having to re prime the pump or do you think I might just as well do the lot?

Do the lot while you're at it. That way you'll know what condition the pump internals are like.

Cheers, fully agree and will do eventually, my intention is to remove and do the whole engine but for now I'm looking for a quick fix if possible just to tide things over until I've time to do the whole job. Thought I'd try using a new uprated relief spring first then if that doesn't improve things check and replace, if necessary, the gears etc. Just wanted to check if it's possible to do that without removing timing cover or distributor.
