Disco 2 What Is This Sensor?

Does anybody mind if I ask another silly question?

Photo attached... What is this sensor for and does it matter the white wire has been connected to the black one? There used to be two wires from it, white and black, but when I got it back from having my clutch fitted they've ripped the white one from the plug and connected the two together... I thought it was for the Temp guage but that still works...

Oil pressure sensor? Great... Now I have to fanny around trying to replace the white wire... That garage really ****es me off not only can't they diagnose a faulty Slave cylinder but they brake wires and don't fix them properly.

I am pretty sure the white wire with brown trace is the original wire.

Is that a new sensor?

Nope, there were a white and black wire coming from the sensor before, I know because I saw it a lot when I was replacing the Turbo.
Now, as you can see the white is connected to the black one and the other wire is no where to be seen on the plug. I think I have a photo of how it was before, if I haven't deleted it.

Yes, but if the sensor was replaced then they would have connected the existing white wire to the new sensor black wire.

The original black wire on the sensor with two wires never went anywhere.

The plug wasn't replaced I can tell you that for a fact.

This is interesting, so if the second wire never went anywhere why was it there?

Yes that's why I didn't think it was for that, I suppose I could unplug it and see if it stops working...

only other thing is pull the connector and see if it has the remains of the white wire in there.

If it is any consollation I broke the wire on mine when I did the clutch as well.

Dang thing hangs down in a bloomin awkward place.

Black wire is for earth connection. Since the sensor is screwed into the casing, it is already earthed so the black wire to earth connection becomes superfluous. Sensors have multiple uses in a variety of vehicles, thus the availability of the earth line.
