P38A Ignition lock

2000 V8 Auto
When I put key in ignition it doesn't feel "normal"
It's as if the wee lever things in the lock dont move.
Dashboard beeps and says ignition key in when I open door even tho key was out.
Can I spray contact cleaner key into barrel and would it work?

Yes give it a spray with contact cleaner work key in and out and little blast of compressed air if you have it, the little flap has got stuck that tells the car key is in.

Blow out with air then use a dusting of graphite lock lube on the key blade.

Forgot about the graphite, its an age thing !

Is graphite grease easy to obtain? Sounds like a good idea to get some as other locks are getting a bit iffy.
Does the graphite not conduct electricity too easily?

DO NOT use Graphite grease. It's Graphite powder you need.

Don't squeeze the graphite powder into the lock . It will fill it up and then you can't get the key in !!

Dats why I said a dusting on the key blade!!!!

Ordered the graphite powder and will use contact cleaner and then compressed air before a light dusting on key thank you all
