I noticed my gearbox starts whining while driving and becomes really loud screaching when kickdown to lower gear.. engine revs higher and no speed..
Changes into all the gears but the changes are harsher now too, and it becomes worse when the autobox is hot.
Engages drive well.. might be time for oil flush or might be bigger problems looming?

I did check the oil, it is topped up nicely but the oil is a bit..dirty.. so new oil and filters and go from there i guess...

depends what you mean by dirty
It is reddish brown and as i didnt had this truck for long..i suspect the filter might be clogged or the oil is on the end of its life..
The box only starts making noise after 5 to 10 miles when the box is warm...
i mean, it engages in all gears.. like reverse, drive 3, 2 ,1 .. just under load it starts whining.

when box locks up ?

No..when putting my foot down or on kickdown.. so under load.. just cruising at 40 or 50 no noise.
So when i pull away gently it is fine.. when i pull away harder and give it some.. it protests and whines.

So ok after a filter and oil change in the gearbox.. the whining is gone but... it is slow as pooh uphill.. like there is drive but going uphill even a gentle one it struggles..
kickdown the revs go up but not much speed gain..
Also i hear a rattle coming from under the car now when accelerating and at 50mph it judders...

Sigh!

TQ?.. clutch packs could be..
Old oil was dark reddish brown but smelled like ATF not realy burnt.
There was some black sludge on the little magnet but i was expecting much worse, trying to put a picture here i made

Magnet doesn't look too bad..

Torque converter i meant, sorry

If it's starting to fall apart that would explain the lack of drive and the whine.

Thanks for the replies and the help, Truck had to go to Mot today.. so spend about 2.5 hours changing the ignition leads..
And behold.. all the noise is gone and truck pulls like a freight train..

Must be a Land rover.. the oil change and Lucas transmission fix did its work after all.. just leads falling apart...

Another lesson learned.

Thanks for the help.. much appreciated
