Hi all

I have a 98MY 300 d1 manual Brit spec

Long story short I've been a bit daft...I cut the wire to the key in switch bonger cos it annoyed me, but I wanted to use the bonger for something else. Anyway I had the power probe out and the wire I cut was giving me an earth and a live so I thought either give one a live or the other an earth like I had to on something else on the vehicle, so I gave the live an earth, turns out I chose wrong. There was a pop in the fuse box area and the headlight adjuster motors ran for a while, and now when I turn on the sidelights the motors give a quick buzz and the interior light flashes 6 times then goes out until I cycle the ignition again.
I've checked all the fuses I could find and the ones under the bonnet and all are ok

I'd be really grateful for any help, I don't even know if I can trust her or not???

Thanks in advance

Yeah I take full responsibility for being a t*t and I know better, I was just trying to rush one last job before it rained and got dark...let this be a lesson to anyone who reads it, just wait till tomorrow!

Am I rite in thinking the bonger is actually in the mfu and it's the same one that does the lights when door open and key in switch chimes, just at different rates? And wot will of gone pop in there and is it fixable

Do you mean there might be an issue if I keep using it before I sort the problem, it's just that it's my only car

Thanks

Have you actually reconnected the wire you cut? Could be that having a missing earth is causing you new issue (after replacing the fuse)

The wire has been cut about 2 years, and I reconnected it to check the bonger still worked first. I have not reconnected it since my cock up

I have not found any fuses or anything that needed replacing, I just heard the pop that sounded like a fuse

Thank you for that

Latest is that I have had my mfu out and in bits and now know the bonger Is in there and shouts its head off thru that little hole they gave it.

The interior lights are now doing wot they want and they only seem to work normally every time when I open the rear cargo door, and I still have no ignition illumination light, and I have not found any faulty fuses or relays at all...I'm still wondering wot the pop was I heard

I did have a look at my mfu while it was in bits and although I don't really know much about modules I didn't see anything obvious jumping out at me. My Haynes manual came today tho and by the looks of the wiring diagram the 'key in' and interior lights are next to each other...whether that is anything to go by or not I don't really know

Thanks again

RESURRECTION TIME
Is there a landy sparky on here???
I've been living with disco as it was, and managed to find a mfu yesterday and fitted it...and...no different surprise surprise.
So when I open a door my interior lights usually flash 6 times then go out, if they are working OK but I turn the side lights on then the light adjuster motors give a quick buzz and the interior lights go out (the motors buzz every time the sidelights are turned on anyway since this started) and also if they are working OK but then more than one door is opened they will flash and go off until the ignition is turned on and back off. The interior lights all work fine if the ignition is on or if it's running. An auto electrician has checked my mfu and can't find anything.

Any help gratefully recieved

Yeah that’s about where I’m at now. I’ve thought about unplugging the headlight motors and rewiring the lights cos I’m not bothered about fading lights
