Battery tray bracket

I was going to change my battery in my 2003 TD4 thinking it would be a 5 mins job tonight before it got dark . How wrong I was . I cannot move the plastic bracket that holds down the old battery . The bolt goes round and round but does not come up to allow any movement in the bracket . I checked to see if there was a nut on the bolt . Couldn't feel anything . So how on earth am I supposed to get this bracket out or moved so I can get my new battery in? A simple job I thought. Ha.

common problem.
The captive nut just rotates. cut off the bolt head and remove battery , then you can get at the rest of it.

That's the next plan. A large enough drill bit and a drill .

How are you going to drill it if it spins?

You can get a 41/2” grinder in there and cut the bolt in ten seconds. I just used a couple of tex screws to secure it.

If you have the same fixing as in the photo's below holding your battery in place, use a ratchet ring spanner and at the same time use a flat bladed screw driver to stop the bolt from turning, highlighted by the yellow dots

Many thanks for that. That's what I I'm going to do . Spanner to hold the 13mm bolt head then drill

First just try using the ratchet spanner then the flat blade screw driver in the slot on the thread and see it the nut will turn ?

That wouldn't work for me. I had to use a junior hacksaw and cut the nut off. I then fitted a new bolt and nut to make sure the battery was secure.
