Time to sort mine out, so I need to know stuff that I've avoided thinking about until now.

How much of the car is different from a standard SIII. Obviously the body and chassis, but I wondered if there's a list of specific differences? Is there a parts book for it?

Current interest is how much of the drivetrain is different? An immediate need is for a rear prop (splines shot) - is it an FRC4907? Out of interest (for now) are the axles the same, largely the same with different ends or completely different? Will std diffs fit?

Two non-essential ones for now. How do you turn the heater off - I can't see any sort of tap anywhere? And any ideas where I might get a changeover valve for the fuel tanks? Mine's been removed and I can only use one tank at the mo.

If u don’t get an answer here check out Facebook group ‘Land Rover lightweight owners worldwide’. There’s also a couple of lightweight specific forums which look pretty knowledgeable

Also try the EMLRA forum there are some very knowledgeable people on there who can tell you all the ins and outs of Lightweights and their similarities and differences between their civvy counterparts.
Test your spare tank before you go to the expense and hassle of fitting a new switchover tap. The tap might have been removed because the other tank was leaking.

Thanks all. Links followed, and I found a cheap LR parts book on eBay, so that's on its way.

And thanks for that info James. Found a tap, not on the thermo housing but at the back of the block. Cool! Glad the axle is standard because I think I've got a diff kicking around somewhere that I can fettle and swap at the same time as I fit the gearboxes and a new rear prop that's arrived from Bailey Morris.

I'm now pondering that £75 tap too. Expensive, but if I'd had it today my filling with diesel cockup could have been simpler to deal with. As wireman says, I'll test the tank first.

'Ere @jamesmartin - I made the seller of that tap (the one you gave me a link to) and it's on its way for £35 + postage. Seemed a fair offer since I found a new one for £90. Thanks for pointing it out!

Parts book arrived this morning, like new. Although it's the official LR one, it's not quite as good as as the normal SIII one I have (less pictures).

if its the same as the light weight microfiche was it only lists the bits peculiar to the lightweight all other bits are std series
