On advice from GG, I've been looking at freelander specialist's... the nearest one to me (that I can find) is about hour and half away called freelanderspecialist.com.
Has anyone had any experience with this company?
I'd like to get the noise from the rear end checked.

Oops... Sorry guys just found another thread similar to mine... sounds like they're a good company. And recommend by bell. So I'll give them a call later.

Expect to be paying £75 to £100 per hour for labour.

That was assumed to be honest. I dont see I have any other option, I could take it to a 'standard' garage and be fobbed off with 'trial and error' solutions. Kinda made sense to take it somewhere that works on these all the time and hopefully get to the issue quickly.

@Land_girl .......if you are in Essex you might want to try DS Automotive in Leigh-On-Sea. 01702 421730
I have used them in the past and found them to be knowledgeable and above all fair.
I used them for my P38 and they do all models inc. Defender, Series and even Freelander ;-)
Always seem quite busy.

Decided I'm gonna change the VCU myself (having ordered one from bell engineering) see of that gets rid of the 'noise' if not then I'll take it to one of the suggested garages.

The owner of Bell engineering changed my vcu and bearings at his home near Kidderminster, he made it look like a piece of cake and he was a really nice guy too.

From what I've seen its not difficult to replace it's probably more akward just because it's heavy and your underneath the car... thats what I'm hoping anyway! Lol

Yeh, it helps to have a set of Torx sockets and a jack or 2 to lower/raise the heavy bits.

The Freelander Specialists vid on separating the props is a great time saver.

The more space you have under the car for access the better.... but then it makes it more difficult lowering and you don't want to over extend the UJs and damage them.

I have all the torx Sockets that hippo suggested (and a few extras).. I have 3 x 2 ton jacks and 4 x Axle stands so hopefully that'll be enough.
Ill check out that vid. Thanks!
