What have you done to your Freelander today

Finally got round to removing the broken slave cylinder today
After removing said part it's damage was cause by failing on 2 parts
The clutch arm was very stiff and the lungs on the slave cylinder bracket had snapped off
I've managed too free up the clutch arm with a mixture of engine oil and wd40 (tip from fellow member NODGE68)
So now just waiting for the new kit to be delivered
 
New front pads fitted today, hopefully there's nothing else wrong. The testing station reported an imbalance, but all 4 pads were equally very low. The caliper 'plungers' went back easy-as with a hub puller :rolleyes:

Also replaced front tyres with the best 2 off the parts car which turned out to be Michelin Latitude Cross. Quite different to the GT Radial Maxmilers they replaced (and on the back), but should be OK and put off investing in new tyres for a year or 2. The Michelins and GTs are both the standard 195/80R15, however, having jacked the car up to remove the old GT, I then had to jack it up more to fit the Michelins! Anyone scanning through, its castrated to 2WD.

Looks clean,how come you castrated it? Just personal preference or forced?

Isn't it about time you fitted another pair of Michelins and went back to 4X4? ;)

It was forced, when the IRD went bang. ;)
Never a good thing to happen,think I’m going to change the fluid in mine looked ok when I bought it 4 years ago but no idea when it was done last it’s due it’s service soon so will do it then.

Nodge was almost right, it din't go bang, it went BANG! VCU & IRD (inc crown & pinion gears) knackered and getting big heavy parts shipped over to here is expensive. Sourced locally, the price was going to be £3,500 for an IRD and VCU.

So I got an IRD rebuild kit (bearings, seal and cooler) sent over for £150, rebuilt the IRD but removed the PTO pinion gear and put all back (inc shafts & old VCU) as 2WD. The shafts and VCU do nothing (other than get turned by the back axle), but the WOF (MOT) examiners see they are there.

The IRD is not the issue, its the VCU and tyres. I'm pretty sure mine went due to a tyre that lost air during a road trip. Still worth the maintenance of oil changes though.
To be honest my land rover on 2 wheel drive is better in the snow than my pajero
I still take mine places where I shouldn't, and a combination of speed and TC has meant I haven't got stuck. Its only the stupid places where its needed recovering, oh and wet grass :oops:

I have just read where your located,seen the springer on your pic and just assumed you were over here.Would have loved to have went over there and played a season of rugby!

That’s one of my cocker spaniels trying to get in the hot tub lovely dogs spaniels.

I know once I got settled in it after telling him no he took a run and jump, still getting hair out of the filter now !! We have two and a collie cross,better talk about Freelanders before I get moved,do the dog guards fit both 3 door and 5 door?

Has it really been sitting on the drive for the last 6 months since I renewed the back brakes, or has it just fallen out!
