Hi, we're planning on doing a lot of driving in the land rover (series 3) this summer (road tripping europe). So, my question is - what are the parts needed to fit a hydraulic power steering system? & can you help me get them. I understand its not easy job. If you have any reccomendations/info please share!

Depends on your end goals and what sort of fab work you want to do.

The Heystee kit is one option. But pricey and to make the most requires the rest of the steering to be in good shape.

Tbh good stock steering really shouldn’t be that bad in a Series. Heavyish at parking speed but fine once moving. If it’s really heavy then something is probably badly worn or needs adjusting.

There are lots of options. Such as using a Defender setup or a Range Rover p38 setup or even electronic power assistance.

I opted for a p38 setup. More info in my build thread in my signature below. But it was also part of other mods happening at the same time.

Impressive work you've done to your Land Rover my friend.
From my limited understanding, the Heystee looks the fastest to install and the least disruptive? Do you have any experience with how good the heystee is ?
How straightforward is installing the p38 setup to a series 3, 2.5 petrol?
I really appreciate the communication :)

Heystee have a good reputation. Although they are in Europe so can prevent issues if you do have a problem. As they’ve aren’t exactly down the road for most of us.

I’ve also found they don’t always have everything in stock and build in batches. So you may want to check they are currently available.

The p38 PAS is pretty easy, assuming you can get the mounting point weleded up to the chassis. The most complex bit will probably be driving the PAS pump from the 2.25. I dare say it’s possible but have never researched it as I was going for the Tdi and just used the stock pump and simply had some pipes made up to connect to the p38 box.
