Hi all, had an overheat a few weeks back and the aircon fan locked on as it is designed to do.. Reading through several posts, I understand you need a proper code reader to disable/Reset. (tried a local indie but he hadn't heard of it before and wanted £40 to clear and codes it was showing, with no assurances that would do it) thought it was better to keep an eye out for a used piece of kit and I've recently managed to lay hands on a hawkeye with v6 software uploaded (just couldn't justify a nanocom).. I'm sure I've read you should be able to reset the aircon fan with a hawkeye, but I can't see the option to do it?
Anyone with some hawkeye experience able to point me in the right direction?
Cheers

Hi. It should be an overheat fault code logged in the engine ECU memory(EMS in hawkeye menu), you have to clear that to stop the fan

Had quite a few faults showing, mostly historical .. But there were a couple of overheat faults, I've cleared them all and started the car , but fan still running.. It is pretty warm around these parts at the moment, sure I've read something about ambient temperature maybe driving the fan to run? Could've just made that up though.. Also was reading on a post from a few years back about an option with hawkeye to disable "fan forced assist", but that was listed as being accessed through menu options td5/ems/programming/fan forced assist.. But I don't have that option under programming? Should I maybe give it a run and try again.. Or is this hawkeye different in some way, I don't need a different cable or anything like that?

There's no such "fan forced assist" option in hawkeye.. switch off the aircon and see if the fan still runs that way or not cos it can run on aircon request too if the ambient temp sensor is fubar or if aircon is on and the external temp is above 25*C

Aircon was off, but could be above 25c so might be that, I'll wait till later on when its a bit cooler and try it then, thanks for the help.

If aircon was off the ambient temp is irrelevant cos there's no aircon request for the fan... replace the relay(R4) maybe it's stuck closed, don't swap with another cos if it's stuck you can mix up things.... also read live data see if the coolant temp is not erratic

Great call, was a sticky relay, so that all back to working as it should.. Although aircon itself now not getting cold, have no fault codes on either hawkeye or aircon system, was working fine before I blew my drivebelt after idle pulley siezed.. Anything I should be checking before I try to have it regassed? If it lost the gas after drivebelt went, (ie. Shook a seal lose our something) not holding out much hope it will just gas back up?!

Replace the compressor clutch relay too(R11) to be ruled out then see if the ambient temp reading on the a/c display is accurate and if OK regas it before you start chasing other possible faults

Thanks, will replace relay...daft question but how do I see ambient temp on display?..only 2 temps I see are the ones I set the climate control to?

for ambient temp push on "EXT" button and it will show up for few seconds, it should be very close to reality...also see attachment

Learn something new. .8 years I've owned that car and never thought to work out what "ext" was for! Thanks for image too, aircon is showing "00", so ok there.. I have just noticed that hawkeye has an option to test the ac clutch.. You push and hold "y", but in not sure what I'm then looking for it to do?
