hey,

Any ideas on a easy/quick way of putting an AUX input into a Mk 1 Freelander. Just want to play songs via phone.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, How did you instal an aux lead into a Becker unit on a mk1. I would be happy with that option. Thanks nick

Just pop the head unit out and disconnect the multichanger cable from the back. From memory its the top, outermost connector. Connect the new one and you're away. I then routed the cable through a hole in the cubby below which a previous owner had made. The cable I got was just the audio one so I also disconnected the multi changer plug under the driver's seat. That allows you to activate the AUX option when pressing the CD button

Hey thanks that' seems straightforward enough to do. But does that mean I will lose the CD multichamger option ? Mind you not that I tend to use it much now anyway as Most of my stuff is on my phone anyway.

Thanks for getting back to me on this :)

You'll lose the multichanger function. As far as I'm aware there isn't a decent option to keep both. Personally, I think an AUX IN is a better option though. Ipods, and now phones offer so much more these days, what with podcasts, spotify and many Gb's of storage, compared to half a dozen cds.

Hi that sounds like a brilliant idea. I will Google a change over socket. I agree that cds definately don't have same range of options as phone but they are still quite appealing in a retro way :)

Hi sorry can' find one on eBay could you show me a link at all.

Btw can anyone provide a link to any instructions for the Becker head unit ? I only have instructions for the standard unit. Thanks Nick

is the "standard unit" the R770? if so could you share the instructions, I would like to fit a 3.5 aux in jack to it (and keep the CD multichanger box) but I'm lost in the process.
thanks in advance.

Here you go.

These sockets are used as a link through when the plug is out. But feed in when the plug is inserted.
This is the schematic of the internal connections (top left of image).

In this schematic.
Pin 1 is the ground.
Pin 2 is the RH feed to the amplifier.
Pin 3 is the RH feed from the CD changer.
Pin 4 is the LH feed from the CD changer.
Pin 5 is the LH feed to the amplifier.

When the plug is inserted, the signal between the CD changer and amplifier is disconnected and replaced with the signal from the 3.5mm plug instead. Other sockets may have a different pin configuration, so would need to be bleeped out.

With that changover socket, presumably you'd still need a disk running in the changer for the H/U to operate on the CD function and accept the audio in of the accessory?

Thanks for all help guys.

So kernowsvenski, is this the device that you used or did you use another device ?

It looks really quite technical and not sure I understand how it works.

Thanks
