Thanks. Sorry I'm crap at explaining.
I shud have took a picture. Where I took the propshaft off at the front in the section that's still on the car (not propshaft) there's like this concave bit that has what looks like a clip over something . In all that area it's dead dry so wondered did that need grease before I put propshaft back on.

Also when I remove that 30mm nut so I can get at the captive propshaft bolts is oil gona pour out ? I was just reading about lt230 replacements and they mention draining transfer box oil and all that jazz.
I'll be getting in over my head if that's the case

Oh and also do i need to grease up the ujs when I bought a whole new propshaft ? It has what looks like grease on the outer bits of those nipple things already

Oh great. :(
Where is the Vin tag on the pedal box?
When you say "someone who knows what they are looking at" is that just a garage or a specialist Land rover person?
Vin label in the engine and the number on the frame in front of drivers front wheel match (which was under a ton of rusty crap). Including the last 3 numbers. Dont know if that means anything?

You may lose a little (small tricke) but it will not pour out. It would be worth checking the level anyway. Changing the oil should not be over your head if you can take a prop shaft off.

It up if anything does drain out On the rear of the box about halfway up there will be a full plug with a recessed 1/2” square. To remove it just use a 1/2 inch ratchet or breaker and unscrew it. The level of oil for the box is full it until it overflows out of the full hole and replace the plug.
(To drain you just warm the oil by driving, and the. Undo the the full plug to make sure you can refill it, the. Undo the drain plug which is a bolt at the bottom of the angled plate and drain into a container)

I would always grease a new prop or uj even though they should come pre-packed with grease. You should regularly grease the props anyway to ensure they last.

Well I couldn't get the Flange nut loose so decided I would use the old bolts just to get the propshaft on. The bolts looked ok apart from the last few mms on 2 of the bolts.
But when i went to put the prop on it was too long.

But miffed as I ordered the one that was listed as compatible with my defender.
I suppose the only thing I can do is contact the shop on monday and see what they say.

Having an old landy is already turning out to be a pain in the bumhole.

Just had a look at Paddocks to make sure I didnt goof up and compatible vehicles is:

COMPATIBLE VEHICLES

Oh, is that all
Take a few very amateur wildlife pics myself. Would love to get in to it more. Maybe when I'm retired. :)
Aye. Without as doubt you get better results the more time you put in. I'm trying to move into video now. I prefer that nowadays

Video? Can you sell it? Video must be harder work?
I haven't so far. My stuff isn't good enough yet. I got one clip on a BBC Scotland documentary once buy got no money.
Yes its harder but also more forgiving. Like if something is behind twigs or something you can still get usable material. Unlike a photograph

Yeah, grass and twigs can be a pain. What's your favourite subject, birds, mammals or a particular species?
