Mechanicals are almost identical on a Disco 1 and a same era Defender. Both easy to work on and both good parts support.

Discos usually represent much better value for money. Although sadly the body tub is more prone to rust. The D2 is similar but more electrics and dynamically superior to the D1 or Defender.

I doubt you’ll get a 110 in budget however. I’d also recommend looking at Jeep Cherokee’s (XJ) and Grand Cherokees. Just as capable.
