doing exhaust manifold gaskets next wkend is it better to heat wrapp the manifold rather than put heat shield back on

Just had a look on couple ov sites and fink will just put heat shields back on that heat shield tape keeps the heat in the pipe and buy doin that it also keeps it in the engine which will be a big no no but cheers Henry b

ERM no just no. I heat wrapped mine when I did my head gaskets and have had no issues it will how ever make the cats work better as the gasses leaving the engine and hitting the cats makes for a better burn.

Had exhaust wrap on my classic mini with no problems. I’ve got a simple theory, if it’s good enough for some of the worlds best racers/motorsports teams, it’s good enough for me....

That looks a proper job biketeacherdave u had no problems with engine heating then as it was a race team site that said about the heat going back into the engine instead of the engine bay ov all good with ur engine think I may try that cheers

Personally if it can go back together original then that's what I'd do. But as Saint says, getting them off intact can be a world of pain! As for motorsport ... well, if it lasts 6 races that'll probably do!

Heat wraps fine and works great. Be careful as it carcinogenic and sticks in the fingers to. It won't overheat the engine it may make the engine bay cooler and stop the wires cracking!

If you hustle the old girl then immediately shut off the engine, then yes, heat wrapping could cause the heat to soak back into the engine. But who really hustles a bus anyway?
