I’ve been with them for a few years. They’re a bunch of opportunists from my experience, the premiums are high and inflexible and today when I called to ask for a quote for my wife after we move house in a few weeks they tried to slap a charge on me for change of address and argued it even after I explained that I hadn’t officially moved to be more or less accused of dishonesty. I’m looking elsewhere as I’ve had enough of them.

Hi Sprout,

Sorry to learn of your recent experience and I have requested that a member of staff give this their attention. Often moving house, even to an address that's nearby, can result in the insurers re-rating the premium which can result in an increase or decrease. Let's take another look and see what we can do.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan

Thanks for coming back. Even though I explained that I hadn’t yet moved, just spending a couple of weeks on site at my new job before returning home and doing the move to the new address next month AND that the Landy is parked outside my home address they wanted me to prove that I hadn’t actually moved by providing them with a utility bill. Apparently my word is not enough. This is just the result of the CSA misunderstanding what I had told her and refusing to back down. They relented after a couple of hours spent on the phone arguing about it. So when I move I’ll notify them about the change of address which is what should have been the case all along. Honestly, to wind a long standing custome up like this is not good business. The original purpose of the call was to get a quote for putting my wife (42) on the insurance. She has just passed her test. I’m stunned they came back and said they can’t insure her. I thought you were a specialist Landy insurer??? Actually just got a quote for £485 for both of us from General Accident. Looks like I’m going to have to leave AF and go with them!

Stopped using them for general vehicles as direct line are much more competetive. Still use them for vintage though, although I must say Lancaster are similar so might give them a go next renewal.

Last time l tried Direct Line for my 110 they were a WOT
Spent twenty minutes trying to explain what side steps are “is it a body kit?”
Then they said they wouldn’t insure a vehicle with side facing rear seats.
“That’s OK” l said, “l’ve removed the rear seats”

Then it became “modified” and another ten minute wait while the “underwriter was consulted”
“We can’t insure that vehicle”

However that was a few years ago, l will give them another try.
