Hi All, its me the cyclemen (aka ros biff) again, would change the username if i could but looks like i'm stuck with it BOOHOOOOOO

Thinking of buying an Impact wrench, seen one which looks powerful enough for general Land Rover/MX5/(Bicycle -ha ha) work. Its a KIELDER KWT 002-04 half inch drive cordless 18v brushless impact wrench, does anyone own one or know anything this particular wrench, or any recommendations....Cheers
 
I have one,

Does most jobs that I have needed it to. Same as anything , you spend a little more and it will do more, there are some great impact wrenches out there that have more power. Some of the more expensive ones you can set the max torque as well.

I'de recommend a Milwakee , it undoes anything , not cheap but I've tried cheaper ones and I end up frustrated when they dont undo something
 
430nm from a 1/2 gun seems pretty poor to me, but even if you have to crack stuff off by hand it will still speed the job up.
Tbh for car use a 3/8 will be more use as physically smaller

Our Mens Shed has a couple of 1/2" drive Hitachi 18volt battery powered impact wrenches, they are plenty powerful enough to remove the nuts from an ordinary small car wheel, I tried them on my Disco, (to undo nuts only), the impact wrench was only just up to the extra friction of larger nut tapers, but I always apply moly grease to the wheel studs and tapers, I seriously doubt they'd be up to a Landy wheel nut that was dry ,(thread and taper),and tight, as they most usually are.
 
I bought this one ... 361929778872 .. a couple of years ago and think it's the dogs danglies! Had a couple of issues with it at first, the case is crap, but still 'just' working, they sent a replacement battery out FOC when one stopped working .. It later started working so I have three batteries now.

When a battery is newly charged it'll take all four landrover wheels off and replace them (nipped up). And will do numerous jobs like undoing prop nuts and bolts and general undoing and fettling. Left charged for weeks the battery loses some power, but is fine for a few weeks. Re-charge before using it again and it peps up brilliantly!

I bought it originally for a particular set of jobs, with the idea of seeing how good it was and maybe buying another, better one if I liked it ... I still use this one, see not much point in a 'better' one and it's left in the Landrover almost all the time!

Occasionally, especially on cold days, I've used the long handle to crack the wheel nuts first, but that's just common sense, no point making it potentially burn out prematurely. It also struggles sometimes with larger nuts around the chassis area, but I wouldn't be without it now.
 
I have 1 of the those Kielder wrenches. So far it's been very good, light enough to be able to hold 1 handed in awkward places & enough torque fir tight wheel nuts etc. Good battery life in use & on standby. Much better than the msins operated Clarke unit I aldo got from Machine Mart some time ago.
 
I bought a De Walt 18v impact wrench back in '05 - and its still going strong. Changed the batteries (2) about 6 years ago so they are probably due another change in the next year or so, but otherwise.....:D

I too would recommend them. We use the m18 fuel 500 series at work. With the std. 5ah battery it'll tighten around 500 m16 bolts per charge. Tried to find its limits but found it removes wagon wheel nuts, think they're about 600lbft.
If anything I'd say it's overkill and oversize for the op. Milwaukee have released a mid torque 1/2" fuel, not sure if available in UK yet but going to get one on the company a/c. The low torque 1/2 fuel isn't up to the job, alright for weight saving but only tend to use on m10 and smaller

I reckon they are either bulling or have their figures mixed up as 1200nm for 180 quid would be a a bargain, plus they quote 1200 as the breakaway torque but max torque is listed as 400nm?

Rough rule is truck wheel nuts are torqued to 700nm but give them a few months and it takes some grunt to get them off.
That wes my first test when I got my 1/2 fuel, it passed with flying colours and roughly 6 years later its still doing the business
 
Thats my dewalt one hiding in the picture ! 1200,nm breakaway and constant 900nm! Been used and abused for years!! Still snaps M12 bolt heads off! If budget allows buy DeWalt!!

I've used the Dewalt DCF899N a few times and found it amazing. Crazy torque and you can lower it if need be. If you shop around you can get the wrench, 1 battery and charger for about £210. Will be getting one when funds allow!
