Collecting the parts for my pending V8 conversion is coming together but I have a Q:
Re efi fuel pump, will the in-tank fuel pump off a Disco 1 V8 fit and work in a 90 fuel tank or should I keep the 2.5 in-tank pump and add an inline pump such as a Facet etc?
Or will the 2.5 in-tank pump work alone? (think the pressure is enough for efi.)

Which D1 EFI fuel pump as there is five to choose from, 3.5 & 3.9. It will work in any tank as long as long as it is designed for an intank pump and the fixing is compatible, it has the depth, a flow and return facility and the usual vents.
Better to use an EFI petrol tank with the pump.

No idea! it's a 3.5 three door Disco 1 with hot-wire efi which seems strange as I thought all 3.5 efi were air flap, but it bears out that some 3.5 Discos had hot-wire before the 3.9, its a 92 m/y so maybe a crossover? I believe its a 24D - Discovery efi 9.35:1 1990 but can't confirm until I've checked the number.

I was told that this conversion would be quite straightforward:rolleyes:; I'm not doing it myself, just have to get all the bits together, but I hadn't factored in all the other bits bobs and odds and sods needed! o_O

I understand that an in-tank efi fuel pump from a RRC will replace the 2.5 in-tank pump fitted to the 90 metal tank.

Looks like the 2.5 just wonder if the size is ok. Has the same metal plate to secure to the tank and a separate sender....
All thought the replacement engine and auto box come with the ancillaries there are lots of bit and bobs needed too, and they'll cost.
Ten years or so ago V8s and V8 parts were almost giveaway, how things have changed!
 
Had to replace an in tank efi pump once, cant remember what I paid and I think I bought OEM so that eBay one sounds very cheap.

think it was to do with justifying the price hike for a range rover.
 
I appears that the pump part number PRC8318, according to my RR parts catalogue, is for GA vin 1990MY RR so that's the 3.9.
The 3.5 pump part number is PRC7475, the part number for the fuel gauge sender for both is PRC8822.

When the plastic fuel tank arrived the sender was incorporated with the pump, I'm sure unknown that. :)
 
So I don't know if this is any help but when I put the 3.9 EFI in the 88 I could never get to run right with an external pump. I used a Facet Redtop and then a pump from the Jag but it struggled to pull the fuel up our of the tank, especially if the level was a little low. I even put a small facet before the EFi pump but it still struggled to keep up with the flow sometimes

I used a RRC intank pump in the end, replacing the sender unit - which was a pain so I went back to SUs and haven't had a problem since
 
Well I've bought a RRC in tank full pump PRC8318 which by all accounts will fit my tank with slight mods. The rubber tube (EFi grade) and bracket need
extending about an inch. I have a separate sender (two hole tank) but it's for a 2.5 so maybe not for 3.5? PRC8822 needed as @discool mentions....

My tank isn't the original for a 2.5P (NRC9225 with external pump), I think from the parts book it's the later NTC2088 with in-tank pump PRC7019 from VIN 243343.

Thanks; according to the vendor PRC8318 is for RRC 86-89 V8 efi, the engine is a 3.5 hot-wire from a 92 Disco (trial before the 3.9 hot-wire?). I've seen this done on conversion blogs and the chap who's doing the conversions agrees this will work; if it doesn't then it'll have to be a noisy mosquito-whiny external type.:(

Oh well, that's the fun of conversions, I'm sure we'll sort something out.:rolleyes:
 
All EFI disco engines are 'hot wire" and their pumps are combined will the fuel level sensor in a plastic tank of course.
As for the eBay vendors model year description of the RR pump post#5, it my work, but the dates don't match LRs, that's one reason why I purchased genuine parts catalogues in case parts any parts are needed I can then get the correct item.

That's after I cleaned several layers of mud and horse doo off! The PO had stables but didn't seem to have a pressure washer :rolleyes:
Will be painted during engine swap next week.
Weird I'm getting all paranoid now that I'm doing the 'right' thing...keep reading stories of conversions that go bad and and end up worse than before and become money pits. Somebody said it's a shame to ruin an original 2.5P but as much as I love it's robustness and simplicity I find I'm driving it hard to keep up with the traffic, the hills around here are a problem so changing down all the time, none of which is helping mpg or doing the engine much good or making for a relaxed driving experience. Committed now and I'm sure it'll pan out ok, just butterflies!:cool:
 
There is an originality argument, but as long as you can stomach 15mpg average at best, it's your choice.
Your pump is up to the job of supplying hotwire efi btw

Cheers @cooltide, this will be my fourth V8 and I'm aware of their drink problem :rolleyes: She's not a daily drive so I can manage :cool:
Thanks for the confirmation re the fuel pump.
Will post the outcome sometime next week for reference sake.
