How to lower your car insurance/ Don't move to Ireland.........SD&P is €1080 tax, and insurance - if you can find anyone who will take a landy on private and not commercial starts at €860 third party. Garda cracking down on commercial vehicles being used privately. You're well in if the landy is over 30 years but 15-20 years and no-one wants to know. Problems insuring cars over 10 years old with extortionate tax. All a con to get more revenue - sell more new cars - get more VRT and higher tax as based on emissions. BOI underwrite most insurance and funnily enough they also regulate it:rolleyes::rolleyes:

When I declare changes like tinted windows (factory fit), mud guards (fitted myself), other items (main dealer fit) the insurance accept them but put up the price if they're non factory fitted. All items are genuine LR accessory parts. If it was factory fit there's no charge. If it's main dealer fit there's an additional charge. Items I fit increase the insurance cost by the value of the part fitted. They then advise the item is allowed but not insured itself. So in the event of a claim where my mudguard gets injured, they won't repair/replace him.

In the case of mud guards I fail to understand why me fitting them is such a big risk. If factory fitted they don't effect the insurance price. They're only there to reduce water/mud being chucked out from the wheels but they see them as a risk. Why? If anything they're a safety feature to reduce spray behind ma hippo ont motorway. I normally go through brokers like AA etc but they tell me more and more insurance companies refuse any mods and struggle to find an insurer for me. I avoid the cheap ones who have poor cover and after care in the event of a claim.
