Engine carbon clean; is it worth it?

Seen this mentioned elsewhere on here as something a member had done and it increased performance.

I'm not familiar with the process - and I'm thinking of using it on a bit of plant as well as other vehicles - so;

1. What is the process? How Dow they do it?
2. Is it worth it?

What vehicle are you talking about I bunged 28 litres of cooking oil in mine the other day and after three miles of driving the next day had sparks / embers coming out of the exhaust

It was a bit disconcerting seeing burning bits in the back window at half three in the morning

From what I've heard about the process, it requires a special compressor type unit to feed the engine with a highly refined fuel. By all accounts it's then able to burn away the carbon deposits formed during normal use.
I've also heard that you should be extremely careful about who you employ to carry out the procedure, apparently as with many "new" applications there are plenty of cowboys out there.

Just give it an Italian tune up with a decent fuel treatment in the tank.

My FBH does that if the fuel the tank is running low. It's very disconcerting to see sparks shooting out from under the front bumper after dark.

A dribble of brake fluid does a lot of good, don’t do too much though!

Just bang some cataclean in the tank if you need to and use the full rev band, send the difference to me and I'll send you a placebo by return

Where are you wanting to remove carbon from?

There's several carbon removal systems out for inlet and EGR systems on modern engines, some work some are laughable.

One we have used (we have now made our own tool for the job) is media blasting of inlet ports/inlet valves on direct injection petrol engines, quite a common problem on BMW's.
