Hi recently bought a freelander on 06 plate the central locking fob had dead battery so replaced it now it won’t start the fob will unlock and lock the doors all lights alarm horn windows everything works there are no warning lights in dashboard can here what I think is fuel pump can any one help ? Please

The non starting is nothing to do with the fob. Normal suspects for non start are high pressure fuel pump regulator O rings. Corroded wiring to the fuel rail sensor. Cam sensor failed or sometimes the MAF sensor failed. So that's 4 things to check. ;)

Hi Mark.
Did the FL start before you changed over the battery in the fob? if so when you changed over the battery have you dislodged the transponder in the fob, I have never opened an FL fob so don't know if that is even possible ?

The transponder is in the key of an 06 FL1, so is separate from the fob.

Hi everything seems to work spot on eccentric when I turn the key to start nothing happens the starter doesn’t turn there in no noise from anywhere and is a 2.0 diesel td4
But you can hear the Fuel Pump working?

On the dash, there is an LED that blinks when the alarm is set. It goes off when you disarm the alarm - when you turn the key does it come back on and stay on? If it is, then the car is imobilised.

If its not imobilised, then possibly the starter is caput or the starter relay - maybe a fuse. Its also possibly the batter is dieing. Probably other possibilities as well.

I'd think it best for you to see if its imobilised first, then some advice can be given either way.

Hi the immobiliser light does go off when the alarm is turned off ! I really thought it would be that,
it does have a brand new battery on so I’m guessing the starter might be the next place to look

If there's no "clunk" then either the solenoid isn't getting a feed or the solenoid is faulty.

By the looks of it, the first thing to check on the TD4 is the spade connector on the starter solenoid - the connections corrode, a clean up and maybe a slight tightening of the connector with some pliers and retest.

If that doesn't fix it, try running a wire from the battery to the solenoid terminal, if it still doesn't engage, then the starter solenoid is faulty.

If it does engage, then the possibilities are...
Starter Relay - I believe the fuel pump relay can be swapped with it temporarily to see if this is faulty.
Fuse - there will be 1 or 2 fuses in the starter circuit, 1 for the keyed feed and 1 for the relay feed.
Ignition switch - this is a known part that fails on Freelander.
Bad earth - probably just from the solenoid as the other part of the relay feed goes through computers and the rest of the car looks OK.
Break in wiring.

Off the top of my head I'm not sure where the relay is, I presume its in the engine compartment fuse box, but not sure exactly where. Similarly, not sure which fuses are in the starter circuit.

If there's no input from others, you can download the Rave Workshop Manual. This has complete wiring diagrams and descriptions of everything. You can find out how to get it here...

This is quite a regular topic - so you might find more info on searches as well.

To check if the ignition switch is working, or there's any problems in the wiring, you'll have to pick points in the circuit and test to see if current is flowing to it - using a multimeter or bulb etc.

These are things I can think of.

Take a quick look at the starter spade end it could be corroded and or needs cleaning, remove it clean it and make sure it is fitted nice and tight, it could also be the contacts and plunger if that is the case then the starter needs removing from car about 40 minutes work, replace the contacts and plunger which should sort out the problem, once again if it is the starter but first check the spade.
