Hey - I just got mine back from ECUTESTING.com - they are based in Heanor, Derbyshire. Basically you pay for a test and refurb up front (mine was £300) - if they test and can't fix they keep approx £50 for the test and send the rest back to you. In my case they were able to refurb ok and you get a lifetime warranty with the refurbed unit. Their website will also tell you what the common symptoms of a failing/failed ECU are + a list the common combination of faults that ecu diagnostic reader will show. I haven't had my vehicle back from the service garage yet so can't comment fully but you may find it useful. There are other places out there who do similar stuff - just use google.uk and search for ECU repairs
