My mate borrowed my disco tonight came back with it on its back side ns bag is shot !!
Ive never had one fail until now, I think I'm just going to put springs on it.
Can anyone suggest a brand or kit that's up to the job.;)
 
Aye we will sort it out no big deal tbh I need a quick fix & my thinking was to eliminate future problems
with the air system as its an early model & just fit springs, its not my main motor but its a very useful one
to have ;)
 
I used Britpart springs around £68 and have never noticed much different from airbags. They are both just springs - its the shock absorbers that smooth out the ride. Its great not having to worry about problems again.

I'm always afraid to mention the B word lol did you do the shocks as well ;)
 
IMO the ride with air is much better, and many think the same. The bags are so easy to change, and should be done as a service item every 5 or 6 years.

With steel springs you lose more than you gain. The operative phrase is "Self Levelling" which means that no matter how much you put in the back (within reason), the suspension will level itself. You'll also lose the additional off-road lift of about 2 inches with just the press of a button on the dashboard. If you have the remote controller (plip) or the David Pye modification you're also able to lower the suspension to make loading or hitching a trailer easier.

My feelin' is that if Coil springs and non ACE was that bad then LR would not have sold them, So if an owner wants to change them then let them. They can always change it back if they find it is a terrible mistake and they do not like the way it rides.

Put 400kg in back with steel springs and see how level it is.

My D2 on air was level

I am not claiming springs are better just countering the almost religious obsession with keeping airbags. The only way to judge if the ride is better is by driving cars and not knowing which has which suspension. Without blind testing any opinions are likely to be biased.
 
I didn't change 'at the slightest failing'. I changed after the bags and height sensors had been replaced and also the compressor had its piston ring replaced and also dessicant and air filter. it worked fine for a while until the compressor failed completely. I didn't want to throw another £300 at it. However much money is thrown at it, it will still be a fifteen year old heavy lump of a car.
