Recently bought a 2003 Freelander pre face lift , as a daily driver and have came across a few issues , have searched threads for the other issues which have helped fix them ...so looking for some help with these ones.

there's a rubble when driving , thought it was tyre noise after checking all tyres which are same make , rear ones have uneven wear plus they are 235/65/17 which a spacer, are these to big? and go back to 225/55/17, have checked VCU which is all good and centre prop shaft bearings have been replaced.
Also when turning left on an uneven road there's a knocking noise from drivers side front.
Drivers headlight appears high have adjusted it down but only goes down so far ?

Many thanks

Tyres can cause rumbling sounds, especially if wear is uneven.
235/65/17 are too large if no spacers are fitted but 225/55/17 look silly imo. 225/65/17 have been fitted by some forum members to good effect. These don't need spacers, but obviously all tyres need to be the same size.

You mentioned the rears have worn uneven. Is there actually more tread then those on the front? Sometimes people move badly worn fronts to the rear. This is a definite no no on a Freelander.

235.65.17 have spacers look good on , maybe they have changed them round so will replace like for like with new ones on.

Read on here that if it's hot to touch then there's a major issue , checked after long drive and it was ok to touch

That's an old and wrong VCU test. The VCU will actually warm up in use, not stay cool. If it's cool, then it's not slipping and overloading the IRD. This could be the cause of your droning sound. The one wheel up test is the only recommended test now. Many IRD failures have been attributed to the temperature test, which is why it's no longer recommended. I didn't even know there are any old and inaccurate threads still on here.

Do the one wheel up test, before your IRD goes bang. ;)

Thanks, when driving straight there's no knocking when going over bumps would it not do then too if it was drive shaft?
