How to silence an air compressor!!!

Hi guys,

Have you got any tips/recommendations to make an air compressor less noisy?
Any good quiet compressors?

Will

SHHHH .they are very quiet but very expensive for a largish one.

Switch it off when not in use! Seriously , a sound proof cabinet, put it in another place and pipe air where you want it

Do you have to make that? Or can you buy one?

Belt driven twins tend to be quieter than the cheaper single direct drive.

Put it in another room as has already been suggested. It needs to get plenty of air around it, not only to compress but also remember the pump and the electric motor is air-cooled. Making a sound-proof box is ok but might cause it to overheat, allow ventilation and the noise can escape - catch 22. Mine is in a small room off the main workshop.

Often they are outside under a little lean-to with te pipe through the wall.

You will need to drain the water out of the receiver regularly if it's outside.
