As @dieseldog69 mentions above, EDC parts availability is non existent now - especially #4 injector with the sensor. You can have one made, but I was told it's about a grand when mine failed

So .... I fitted standard pump, fitted it and a full width intercooler, and had it tuned - now have more power than EDC, and more reliability too.

As for rot, yep, BIG problem - and IME, the 3 door ones are worse than the 5 door ones. Body rot is the problem, but chassis rot won't be far behind - certain drain holes get blocked, and big problems follow shortly thereafter.:(:mad::(

We run two D1's - I am going through them both as rolling resto's - they have both just passed their MOT's with clean tickets, and something of a "wow" from the tester due to their "amazing condition" - MOT testers words, not mine. :)

IMHO, if you can weld, then go for it, if you can't, then you either need to learn quickly, or look at another vehicle. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it is my experience.:(

Japanese RE-imports are available from the likes of Algys Autos - no road salt in Japan, so they are in better nick, but they are still all 20+ years old, so some caution is advised.;)

Learning to weld is something I’m going to have to do I think. It’s either that or let it go but it’s too good for that and I’ve put too much money into it. I did briefly think about leaving it alone and scrapping it when it one day fails an mot but there’s really nothing I’d want to replace it with so it makes sense to preserve the old girl. My rot is minor, a welding course is on the cards for later in the year.

The D1 is my first landy and having sat in a few defenders and read the complications of D2 & D3 ownership I have no desire to swap it for anything else. Find a good one, look after it and you’ll almost certainly fall for its charms. Just be prepared to spend more than you planned keeping it right.

Wow! That is commitment.

I used to pay that much before I moved home, that's how I know.

I can't make head nor tail of the dutch road tax on their english site. Judging by what im reading on there paying only 2,400 is getting away very lightly with an old D1!

Zeker, maar wil je echt een Discovery een om mij te rijden altijd moet je betaalen heel veel geld, kunnen je minder wegbelasting met de benzine motor en zo de Nederlanderlander moet en hooger prijz betaalen op tanken.

Never fear, much more lost on the Dutch version of the site!

My Dutch extends to "wow, the dutch warning label always has the longest words" :D
