Who pays for the strip down to investigate? Know someone who got caught out paying a grand to get a cam looked at then they said normal wear and tear.and he's stuck with the bill

That was just an example for if the bill was£500 and you paid the£25 excess
many thks, wasn’t sure , as it didn’t make sense if they covered the entire engine it had to be a higher max coverage

The owner in the first instance, back in 1976 I purchased car and within two months and 3000 miles the clutch burnt out, I had to pay for the inspection as I knew something was wrong, it was found that an incorrect clutch had been fitted so a new and correct clutch was fitted and I was reimbursed the fee I paid for the inspection under the cars warranty.
Still have the car today and it's still fitted with that replacement clutch.

After searching 10+ sites 99% of them will not cover a 12 years or older which is an ass ache. Although I have found one called ‘Warranty Direct’. £477 for the year it says it covers...
The following engine parts are covered:All internally lubricated parts are covered including: Camshafts & bearings, camshaft followers & rockers (including hydraulic lash adjusters), connecting rods & bearings, crankshaft & bearings, cylinder block, cylinder bores & liners & seals, cylinder heads, internal bushes & bearings, oil pump & drive, pistons & rings, timing gears & chain & tensioner and valves & springs & guides & cylinder head gasket.
Gear boxes (including automated manual gearboxes, automatic gearboxes, four wheel drive transfer gearboxes, hybrid transaxles, manual gearboxes and transaxles.) The following parts are covered:Automatic transmission brake bands & clutches, gears, hydraulic gear-shift governors & internal servos & valve blocks, internal bearings & bushes, oil pumps, selector forks, shafts (all, including extension shafts), synchromesh hubs and rings and torque converter & flexible drive plate.
Transmission
including front & centre & rear differentials, front & rear live axles and drive shafts). The following parts are covered:Constant velocity joints, crown wheels & pinions, differential gears & thrust washers, external drive shafts, internal bushes & bearings & shafts and propeller shafts & propeller universal joints.
The only thing putting me off is that it’s going to go through a third party.. you can’t go through the company direct, even on their website. So as far I’m still confused and still have no cover

You also need to be careful with warranties with engines as if a non covered part caused the damage to all the covered parts then the whole lot wont be covered.
Example oil cooler jet failure causing loss of oil pressure causing engine blow up, Im sure theres many many more.
In my eyes warranties arent worth a toss, way better to keep the warranty money to one side for any unforeseen costs.
I havent bought a warranty on a car for the best part of 15 years same with white goods, in fact anything at all.

I reckon with most cars change the oil and filter every 5k (no matter what the maker says) and the trans oils throughout as soon as you buy it and you wont have many if any issues with the driveline.
D3 specific things like the epb shoes tear them down, clean and lube and reassemble then adjust annualy and that will also be trouble free.
Like any machine as soon as you notice anything not quite right attend it it asap and it wont let you down.

I’m not going to bother with trying to find a warranty.. I’ll just keep ticking money over into a little savers account which can be for the landy. I’ll do my own little services throughout the year and keep it in good nick as much as I can. I’ve got break down cover so that’s good enough for now appreciate all the help guys!

I haven't purchased a warranty either for a lot longer than 15 years, my cars come with one FOC the same with white goods, the same brown goods also, which I purchase from John Lewis as they a give 5 year warranty FOC which was handy once when a 3 year TV power supply burnt out

Just read a thread on D3 forum where a guy has just waken out a 3 yr warranty with warranty direct for 580 quid per year, now as its twice the price of the rac one I wonder how the rac one compares in reality?
Ive read many threads on wd on the D3 forum and its mainly good.
On the upside Ive had my D3 for over 3 yrs now and its only now it needs some money/time spent on it, never let me down.
One and only time it threw a paddy was 50 miles from home when a wheel bearing started to pack up, I carried on driving it and got home, bearing 100 quid and 2 hrs of my time.
Now needs front lower arms, arb bushes and probably steering joints, but it can all wait until it warms up!
