Disco 2 Aftermarket Sunroof - Not Working Correctly

We had an aftermarket sunroof fitted when we originally purchased our 2003 Disco 2 Td5 (was suggested as being a more reliable unit than the factory-fitted unit at the time). Anyway, can't quite recall who fitted it and what make/model it is - can't put my hands on the original paperwork! Problem is, it's now not working as it originally did:

• Originally, if it was open, it would automatically close when the ignition was turned off. If open, it now stays open when the ignition is switched off - need to manually close by holding down the close triangle button until it is fully closed.
• It now won't pop up at all, so the only buttons that work are the two triangle buttons - close triangle button must be held in until fully closed and open triangle button must be held in until fully open.
• The "1", "2" and "C" buttons no longer do anything.

Now, it seals perfectly and operates smoothly with no resistance or squeaks and appears to still be in very good nick - I will check the runners later and lubricate - assume white lithium grease used sparingly is fine?

I've attached a picture of the controller/switch in the headliner unit. Does anyone know if this is a "programming thing" in that the controller may have got confused when the battery was totally removed, faulty controller/switch or a fuse/s somewhere? As I said though the motor that opens and closes works fine, it's just the controls don't work as they should.

Is it possible that this is a water ingress issue? I know its fairly dry in Aus but roofs, at least genuine ones leak and ruin the sunroof motors, just wonder if this is the same cause, in that moisture has got into the controller or the motor?

I don't know the product, but was it a new aftermarket item to something that was removed from a wreck and fitted to your vehicle, anyway I'd go with the sunroof ECU fault, nodoubt that item is untestable but if it is test, unless u see something else like a wiring issue on the way, or just purchase a replacement ECU.

Just started randomly pressing and holding the buttons for 10-15 sec's. Lo and behold, working perfectly now! Wasn't the motor and wasn't fuse - just not behaving; "brain reset" fixed it. After posting here I read on another forum that they can lose some of their functions after the battery is removed and they need to be reset, don't have the manual so thought I'd give the button-mashing a go!

Follow-up on this. Several days ago, sunroof stuck fully open - would not move! First time ever it has failed. Was out at the time, some distance from home and there was imminent danger of heavy rain - luckily we were close to the original sunroof installer! Was hoping it wasn't the motor - stuck under the headlining! The technician said the switch very rarely fails but he checked - it was the switch! Switch replaced and all good again - switch (new) was $150 (AUD) - a lot for a switch (see previous pic). Checked later via search engine and found a couple (used) of switches for sale out of the USA on ebay - both $50 (USD) + shipping; couldn't find a new switch anywhere?

Anyway, cleaned rails on sunroof and applied some lithium grease - had never had a service but was in good nick (I at least protect all seals, including sunroof, with Protectant 303 after I wash and wax - protects well against UV degradation). The sunroof place had said it would need a full service and that would cost around $450 - bugger that I said!

Anyway, sunroof is a Webasto Hollandia 700. The switch always needs a reset after the battery is disconnected:

Open the sunroof fully (tilt, not slide) using the up arrow key. Once fully up, hold the arrow key for 6 seconds until it beeps - this resets the sunroof to factory settings. Then you need to reprogram the memory buttons 1&2 by opening either slide or tilt to desired position - once in desired position hold either the 1 or 2 button for 5-6 seconds until it beeps and this will add the position into memory - do the same for button 2 and that's done with two open positions in memory. C button is of course set for close and the arrow buttons can be used as one quick touch or hold down until desired position is reached; the sunroof automatically closes when the ignition is off.
