Hi everyone, just joined up and hope someone can help, I have a freelander 1 td4 2005 and I have just put on an EGR bypass unit, I also took off the air intake manifold and scrubbed out all the gunk, I also fitted a crankcase breather upgrade part, reason for this was I had no heat even after 12 miles it was still cold air but now my heater is a lot warmer but not hot, my temp gauge is now at 11 o’clock and I was thinking of flushing the heater matrix but firstly I’m not sure which pipe is the inlet or outlet also is there anything else I should be aware of?
I also let it heat up and the top right hand radiator hose was cold (as in passenger side) but the drivers side top and also the bottom was fairly hot, is this a problem or is that something to do with the flush I’m about to do?
Any help and advice would be appreciated.

I'm not a TD4 person so not the best to advise, however, a couple of things...

1) Have you bled air from the system using the bleed screw on the pipes that go through the bulkhead into the cabin?

2) The TD4 is known to run cool. People have done a thermostat mod to help them run warmer - I believe a Peugeot (or Renault?) thermostat is pushed into of the coolant hoses. You might want to do a search on here to find references to it - its quite common. The search button is in the top right on the screen and best just to search within the Freelander forum.

Hi thanks for a prompt reply, I’ve tried the bleed valve and there is only fluid coming out but looks brownish, do you know if this is the outlet pipe ? I’ll look up the search you suggested, Thank you.

The pipe with the bleed is the outlet from the heater. I doubt it's blocked though, as they never are unless someone has put a leak sealer in the system.
I don't understand how doing breathing modifications is expected to alter the running temperature though .

You need to replace the thermostat or add the in hose thermostat as suggested by GG.;)

Thanks for your response, I am looking into the inline thermonuclear not sure which one as there is a Renault 5 in-line or the one with an actual new inline housing, has anyone done either of these and which one is recommended?

Depends on the condition of the pipe. If it's old and worn, then a new pipe will make things easier, if it's ok, have a go.
Warming the pipe in hot water for a while helps, and some lube or silicone spray.
Don't forget the layout of the coolant pipes is different from manual to auto, so if @Nodge68 posted a pic if his current car, that's an auto with a different pipe setup to a manual.

Got mine on order - so I am interested in Shakari's question as well.
What vehicle are you fitting this on and Which thermostat did you order and from where? I’ve not ordered anything yet so I’m looking for recommendations.
Mines is a freelander 1 2005 td4 2.0

It's a 2006 td4 manual. I ordered a kit from eBay, when I turn my PC on later I will post the link. 14.99 I think it was, you can probably get cheaper to be honest bit this one was the only.one that delivered to Argos for me to collect.
