I have an issue with air suspension on 2000 discovery td5 it lowers when i start engine from normal height to its bump stops and after about 10 minutes it returns to normal height. I changed air bags about 4 years ago and height sensors at the same time i dont think it's air bags as it holds its height fully until engine has started sometimes it will hold its height for about 10 ninutes and then it drops down and other times it will lower as soon as i start it up. Thanks for any help

After it's inflated back up is the compressor still running? Just thinking that it may be a leak somewhere and the compressor is maintaining the height. If so you'll need to get it fixed before the compressor fails, although I believe it will cut out if overworked.
I'm sure the experts will be along soon

Compressor Seems to cut out as normal and is quiet just abit odd it holds height until engine is started but i will be taking cover off tomorrow to check compressor. I had to drive back from Wakefield to south wales yesterday and it was fine on motorway it did drop twice driving through Wakefield so i pulled up switched it off for a few minutes then it lifted to normal height after restarting engine i then lifted it to offroad height and back to normal driving height and it was fine after that but today it dropped again as i was driving it. I have swapped relays about under bonnet to see if it was a relay problem and run engine without the relay inplace but no difference.

Don't discount a leaky airbag because you changed them four years ago. Most users I would think will say that the bags will last about five years or so give or take. I've had my D2 for just over five years now and I'm on my second set of bags, it's just one of those things you have to get used to if you want to retain the air suspension, I suppose.

I'm going to check airbags for ths tobe sure but it holds height when parked up and only drops when i start engine thats why I'm suspecting it may be something else as when i had to change them last time it dropped it's backend when it was parked. Thanks for your replys.it has sat overnight and held its height.

Update sprayed soapy water on compressor valves and airbags no signs of leaks but although compressor worked after first startup i couldn't get it to work after that now the backend is on the wheels and won't lift nor will compressor work relay and fuse checked and all ok there was a bit of heat in electrical connections so at moment I'm going with compressor knackered.

Iv a similar issue with ours its on the bump stops fuse and relay are fine pump runs for a few seconds then cuts out it will run eventually but its not putting out hardly any air so repair kit tomorrow I bought new air springs passenger side was completely flat so iv fitted a new one but its not inflating. Drivers side still had air so iv left that for now until I can get air into the bags.

That might be the case but check all the connections, especially the ones that were getting warm and be prepared to get a compatible code reader on it just in case as @Landmark2 has already suggested, the SLABS ECU might have timed out due to the compressor running for too long, or as it's known "over-cycled" and a code reader might be needed to reset it.

Think im gonna have todo the same iv fitted a piston seal repair kit bit the bullet and fitted a new valve block still not comming up im sure the pump is weak i can put my finger over the air output hole almost no pressure and i can almost stop the pump.

So not wanting to be beat by an air compressor iv stripped it down this evening to see if i can sus out why it has a low air output.
Even stripped down the electric motor brushes look like new nothing amiss there.
Removed the air dryer all good then the pressure limiting switch, bingo bit of water not much but gave it all a good clean bit of silicon grease on the seal popped it all back had another look at the piston and cylinder stripped it bear gave it a clean and reassembled it.
Air pressure is much better i think previously most of the air was comming out of the exhaust port not the air output
Both controlled by the solinoid which i also removed and cleaned.
Time will tell i will refit tomorrow and see

Still waiting for the parts to arrive . I have also noticed the seller is also including the slabs unit but hopefully not required but biketeacherdave has made me think about stripping and trying to repair the compressor that is on there as a spare.

Fixed !!!!! Its a simple system main cause of failure hi pressure release valve. No need to strip the electric motor just fit a new piston ring 12 quid give the rest a good clean use plumbers silicon grease on the O rings and strip and clean the piston cylinder head the little valve in there gets well coated.

Replaced compressor today suspension raised stayed up for about 10 minutes and lowered back on the bump stops again and comressor stopped working again so booked for diagnostics on monday morning.

I have couldn't see any leaks. I have bit the bullet and got a mobile diagnostics techy coming out on monday to try and diagnose the problem.

Car has been sitting for over 24 hr started it up car lifted and holding height so switch it off and still holding its height

So the way the bags leak is often in the folds they can almost self seal if you know what I mean get the soapy water spray out and start spraying I didca bit of research while messing about with mine and thosethatvwent before us said " when you think its not the bags its the bags" it readily is a simple system more so than my p38.
1. A pump
2. Valve block
3.air lines
4. X2 air bags

As you have swopped the pump over you should suspect the air bags have a leak it is possible when you swopped the pump you havnt quite sealed the air line properly.

Have another look

Just had mobile mechanic plug in his diagnostics and clear all faults the only one that kept coming back was the right height sensor.
