Now a few of these have been modified for off roading I wanted to know if anyone has kept the EAS and extended the air intake filter. As I'm trying to find out what thread it is in the end of the compressor.

I did that with mine!
A bit rough but I managed to find some clear pipe that threaded (roughly) into the pump end with a little sealant, then took the pipe through the bulk head Into the passenger footwell and refitted the filter.
Not for wading but to reduce the amount of humidity taken into the block. Clipped it up next to the passenger heater motor. So far so good. It has for me, stopped a lot of humidity.
For a while I removed the blow-off filter to monitor the block/pump behaviour as I thought it was over working. Pressure switch air leak!!
As for the thread size, sorry I can't help. Although I think some bugger will know..:p;)
 
If you are going to wade, getting water into the EAS box which sealed to some extent, would be far less of a worry to me than water getting at the alternator, which is totally unprotected. And lower than the EAS box. Much lower on diesel variants. Stick to the maximum recommended wade height as listed in the hand book or you maybe entering a world of pain. Bit of a silly concept if you ask me, a lot more will suffer long before the EAS compressor does..

Sometimes people ask silly questions the OP is one of them. ;):D:D
 
Think there are a few things people who want to excessive wade in a P38 need to know. Specially if it is on air. If it's on springs you have already ruined it so it doesn't matter. If you are in deep water above recommended wade height in wade mode. If the chassis becomes grounded and wheel traction is lost. It will drop to access height to try and compress the substrate holding it, then it will go to max height which is 2" higher than wade height to try and free itself. If you are stuck in deep water it's the automatic drop to access height that you need to worry about.

I'm actually using the compressor on my Discovery2. I broke on P38's for spares 6 years ago, but kept a few bits. So not really a silly question as its Not a P38 wading but just thought I'd seen a few modified P38's So thought it may have been done. But like you say probably the least of the problems

Measure the thread on the filter ?

measure diameter in both mm and inches and count threads per inch and pitch of thread in mm.then google results it will give you the thread

I mite have to try. Its only about 3 - 4 threads long and the male thread on the plastic filter isn't in good condition hence me problem.
 
Thread is likely to be 1/4" BSP or NTP. It is unlikely to be metric as the compressor originally came from a US source.
