Classic No power under load/in drive

Hello,
91 V8 auto, no power in drive. Revs nicely in neutral and all 8 firing. Have tried different MAF and ECU - no change. Distributor incl amp replaced with new. New coil, plugs and leads also fitted. I don't have the rovergauge software, nor if I 'm honest, the right skills to interpret the results even if I did.
Someone suggested the autobox might be killing the power or binding. Any thoughts on this? I can't get the RR more than a few miles (it takes about a minute to get to 40!) so i'm limited with local garages that don't understand old Land Rovers. I'm in Malmesbury in North Wiltshire in case you know anyone round here! I haven't used it all winter (sad face!) but I suppose that might stop the rust a bit!

a propos of nothing, one of our roadside techs got called to a car with a "stuck handbrake". Turned out the wheels were spinning on ice!

Fuelling issue - as in not enough getting through? Try running with fuel cap open to rule out blocked breather.

I don't think the brakes are binding but will check. No smells though! Fuel is the next thing on my list so I will try the fuel cap thing.

Could low/crappy gearbox oil impede the transmission and cause the symptoms?

It could but it would be like a slipping clutch: revving and going nowhere, gradually getting worse until no drive with cold oil.

Has it had a pump replaced in the past? Mine lasted 12 years.

No replacement fuel pump in my ownership which is 5 years. The autobox is acting like a slipping clutch, its just like a remarkably slow car!

Check for smell of fuel, damp sender / return pipes as well. They are one piece from tank to bulk head and rot. Fuel filter too in rear wheel arch

Auto-box filter, excessive wear in 'box components, low trans. fluid level, trans. (hand) brake over-adjusted? Did the problem occur suddenly or has it been there for a while & gradually got worse? The answer to that will rule in or out a number of suggested possible causes.
