Hi again Josh,

Yes, it would appear that Tim4x4 mentioned this - if he wished to respond we'd certainly like to investigate.

Many thanks.

I will just repeat what I have previously said in my post:-
The maximum weight is 2000kg the above restrictions exclude the Land rover Defender 110.
I had the previous year paid for breakdown cover but not fully read the limitations, luckily I had no recovery needs in that year. When the insurance was renewed I looked better at the policy and found that the Defender was not covered because of the limitations.
I phoned Adrian Flux to make sure and they agreed that the policy would not cover my Defender and that I was to find another company for cover as there was nothing they could do for me. I then asked about the previous 12 months cover I had paid for The lady put me on hold for a few minuets and returned with the statement that as it was their fault they would have covered me in the event of a breakdown and not to expect any refund on last years premium.
Maybe they would have done something to recover my vehicle??? but what would have been the outcome if my breakdown was out of the office ours of Adrian Flux the recovery company turns up and says sorry mate your on your own its too big and heavy for our equipment??.
When I first insured my vehicle with AF I had a number of months breakdown cover to run and was advised by your phone sales to add breakdown cover when this runs out, this I did and paid for 12 months.
Upon renewal of the breakdown cover I received the prompt from AF to renew along with a schedule upon reading the schedule it clearly states a weight limit of 2000Kg. I questioned this with your phone sales who said that they could not cover my vehicle and to get cover elsewhere, I questioned the previous years cover and was told that as the mistake was that of AF they would have covered me in the event of a breakdown. I am not sure weather to believe that cover would have been available or not but lets say I had broken down and called for assistance on a Tuesday at 10.00 am the recovery vehicle arrives and the guy says sorry not covered to heavy a vehicle for my truck. I would then have phoned AF of course raging because of a) the breakdown and b) because of the inappropriate policy I have been given, the nice person would have said sorry our mistake we will get an appropriate recovery vehicle to you ASAP at our cost.
Now change the time of the breakdown to a holiday period and no one on customer service at AF to make a decision on the alternative recovery vehicle we now have a different outcome and a really disgruntled customer.

You’d think AF would be aware of the restrictions on their breakdown cover before recommending it to Defender owners, as they specialise in Land Rover Defender insurance!

We bought European breakdown cover with AF last Summer, for my 110 SW.

Would l have been covered, l wonder, if l’d broken down in Spain.

Of course if l ask they will say “yes” in retrospect or they would find themselves refunding the premium.

They claim to be Land Rover specialists but my experience indicates they just dabble with many makes and are missing the indepth knowledge.

Still better than some. Direct Line “what are side steps, are they the body kit”
“What are anti roll bars” (when l received the paperwork it listed l had a “roll cage”)

I guess in a way you can’t expect people like Direct Line to know about specialist vehicles though.

I fitted anti roll bars to the missus’s 90, she has owned Defenders for 12 years but doesn’t really know what they are.

Except that it now “goes round corners better”

lightning your wife doesn't need to know what anti roll bars are a specialist insurance company do need to know.

Hi again Tim,

Thanks for the post and I have of course investigated this for you and aim to clear up any confusion regarding the issue.

Rest assured, if you have taken out Flux Rescue we would recover the Defender regardless of it weighing in excess of 2000Kg's - the scenario that you allude to above wouldn't not happen. If your Defender was over the 2500 Kg's mentioned limit our recovery service would still recover you and would have also recovered you during the last policy term.

I'm not too sure why you have been advised differently and if anyone is in need of further clarification they can view details on the Flux website as follows:-

https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/breakd...MIys_Hto652AIVhrvtCh1jgQBnEAAYASAAEgK5JvD_BwE

We do understand that there will inevitably be Landrovers over the 2500Kg's limit - again rest assured that these are covered under a Flux Rescue policy listed as a 'car' and priced at £56 (as part of a policy).

We apologise for any confusion and this was due to the fact the ABI (Association of British Insurers) individual vehicle files for cars aren't categorised according to their gross vehicle weight as trucks and commercials are.

We do sell a policy for large motorhomes and commercial vehicles between 2,550 kilograms and 3,500 kilograms as well. The price is of course higher than for any private car and we wouldn't expect Landrover owners to be categorised in this bracket.

However, if you did have the standard private car breakdown and your Landrover was over the 2500 Kg stated here there would still be the facility for the chosen recovery provider to recover you to your destination.

I hope that this is all in order and don't hesitate to return to me should this not be clear.

Thanks again

Dan

How on earth did you get Land Rover insurance for £105 with agreed value? Is it a “Classic” policy as a second car?
The insurance renewal from Adrian Flux came today on the missus’s standard 2003 90 SW and it’s £406.28.
She’s got a full NCB and it’s SDP only!

Not sure, that's just what it was, we agreed a value over the 10k mark, I have told them I will do about 5000miles a year (I will do less) and my fiancée is also insured on it. Fully comp. I do have two cars but this is not a second car policy as such, they simply asked if I had any other cars and I said yes I own another, my car insurer is also aware I have the Defender and that helps that policy but it doesn't make them think my other car is the second car. I have not paid over £150 for my Defender's insurance for as long as I can remember and long may it continue!

Recently took out a policy with nfu. Less than half the price of next best quote, no admin or cancellations fees and no extra charge for monthly payments, phone was answered very fast, and was straight through to a human who was very very helpfull and very good at thier job, i cant recomend them enough so get a quote off them before you next insure

Just to give you the heads up, certain companies go on the crime statics in your area and they can go up week by week month by month, start getting quotes six or seven week before your due date and even up to a day before and done include auto renewal you will get a big bump on that....after that advice all I can say is happy hunting and look for yourself all are different

I think thats dead right, depends entirely on where you live. Couldn't beat direct line for the wifes Clio, and couldn't beat Flux for my disco-its been around £200 for the last 6 years fully comp with commuting, they always beat the best quote I can get off tinternet. Just insured the freelander with them for under £200 TPFT inc commuting classed as modified cos no rear drive train.
