Hi all,

Being a Defender guy, I'm a complete noob in Freelander stuff.
My better half owns a 2004 Freelander, with the facelift dash. It has the integrated radio, but I wanted to give her an upgrade with a Bluetooth capable radio.

Is this possible? Will the use of the steering wheel controls still be possible? Is there any dash adaptor for the radio?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Yes there after market dash face plate, so remove the existing factory fitted unit and install the new one with a head unit of your choice if you have an amp fitted replace that as well.
Yes but will depend on the head unit.
Adaptor for radio? explain

I wanted to still be able to use the steering wheel controls, would that be possible?
Probably will look into a Sony unit

I looked into this myself just recently. In the first case I dropped into Halfrauds and to be honest they couldn't have been more helpful. All you need is a vehicle-specific auxiliary harness to keep the wheel control function.

Many new radios have wheel control learning as part of the setup. This does away with the need for converter boxes. So simply buy a radio with wheel control learning;). Does the Freelander have an amp under the passenger seat and a sub in the boot floor?

All the head units mid range and upwards have the provision to interface with the steering wheel controls. The patch lead that you require must match your new head unit and your vehicle, the head unit end it usually universal but the other is vehicle specific.
Halfords employees have no experience other that looking a a parts book, youmay be lucky and get the correct item or maybe not, try them and see or speek a specialist ICE kit supplier, as the link there's loads around.
