Hi all,

My dad's 2a is almost ready for MOT, but the tyres have got quite a lot of cracking (nothing big, but all over)...
I'm looking for somewhere in south birmingham / warks worcs for 7.50 x 16 with decent tubes - any recommendations?

Greg

Buy the tubes yourself online to ensure they are good ones. Most garages I have been to no longer stock tubes and order in what they can get delivered quickly, usually cheap ones.
I would also be tempted to have look at the tyres you want online as well, at least you will then know if the price the garage is quoting is reasonable.
Alternatively you could order everything and get a mobile (HGV style) fitter to just come and fit them on your drive way.

OR (and I know this is not what you asked)

Get a set of tyre leavers and fit them yourself, changing tubed tyres is fairly straight forward, and I taught myself how to do this when I needed a new set on the series.

If you fit them yourself remember the tyre is removed from the inside rim not outside like on most vehicles

Assuming you have the original rims that is a very good point.
If you have aftermarket rims you would need to check which way to take it off.

ATS Euromaster did range masters cheaper than anywhere I could find on line. I don't know how good there range is.

cheers guys - hadn't thought of getting a mobile fitter out - do they tend to fit as well as supply (ie fit your own)?

In terms of fitting myself, how hard is it getting the bead over the rim with a set of irons?

Fitting tubes is a PTA phone Charles at JTS wheels and tires Nottingham . He has tubes and tyres in stock works 7 Days a week

I do not think it is that hard, as long as your leavers are long enough, but it certainly gets easier the more of them you do as you develop the right technique. the first one i did took a while and a lot of effort, now i know what i am doing a little better it is much easier. After i attempted first time I then watched how the mobile tyre fitters (HGV) did it at work and copied their technique. But there are plenty of videos on youtube to do the same thing with.

Mobile tyre fitters will fit your own tyres, or supply and fit tyres, but the best thing is to clarify with them what they are happy to do. Some wont fit part worns and they may have to order the tyres you need anyway

Thanks - useful info.
