I've got a problem with my Flymo, I'm away over to the Hotpoint washing machine forum @ [email protected] to let everyone know.

My problem with threads like this is that although no a fan of the said AF, some are. Very rarely do people praise companies, lets face it Land Rover do not have their troubles to seek and yet we all buy them (apart from 1 member). I'm all for outing bad service but I think this thread is a bit like the one that Dunderhead started with his video sideshow. Joined only to share his nonsense. I'm not say that this guy is the same but come on, he'll not be back and guys here will still request quotes from AF.
Bit like moaning about buying a box of 100 screws from Toolstation, counting them, finding only 99, then doing your nut, although Toolstation would in all probability replace or give you a screw:rolleyes:, not really their fault that there was a missing screw in the first place. Other screw buying places are of course available.
I thought AF were only Insurance Agents.
When this sort of thing happens it always pays to have the Legal cover, Shirley?

I'm with Beasty on this one

About 5 years ago I got a quote over the phone from A F for a 1970's Volvo estate and they came up with over 900 quid
as the cheapest price they could manage TPFT, after I had stopped laughing I got fully comp cover
from a well know everyday insurance company for 280 quid, why was A F so expensive ?????

I thought at the time I'd never bother with A F again just due to ridiculous prices
and I have never been back since

Smashing, thanks for that. Good to see you've moved on and not let it bother you.

I think you will find it is because they are a specialist insurer who want to insure high risk goups at high prices.
If you are middle aged, with an excellent driving record and an up-together motor, you would be better going to an insurer that likes that kind of business. :)

I agree. If there is a problem, go elsewhere and do your business with them.

Why post about it on the net, seems a bit like the primary school playground!

I think any bad experiences of insurance company's that we may deal with are worth hearing about.

My non fault accident last October (insured by AF) was handled very well indeed and couldn't fault them! Not a bad annual premium and that was as a middle aged (42) bloke with an excellent driving record and an up together car (Peugeot.....don't worry I've swapped it for a 200TDI 90!)

sorry for a late response and setting off a old thread again but I bought a series 3 of a guy who used Lancaster Insurance he paid £95 a year so thought Id give them a try, they quoted me £982 so I went on to a well known comparison web site and put in the exact same info I gave Lancaster and guess who was the cheapest quote, yes it was Lancaster Insurance £105 so the question is how does that work then ? £877 cheaper than calling them direct,

just thought i would put my pennys worth in also, nothing bad though!! i have been running heavily modified subaru imprezas for many many years as well as running land rovers and 4x4s etc, and have been recommended AF many a time, and have probably called up for a quote maybe three times over the years for some of my cars, and as above every time the quote has been double to three times what i have found elsewhere from other companys that do modified and sports cars, always fully comp also, so obviously i have never actually taken out a policy from AF, now i have no doubt as a company they are fine with fab reps etc etc, but why there prices are so high!! giving nothing extra or over and above other SPECIALIST companys i have idea.

Then you should speak to their rep on here ... and negotiate ...:)

Because they are chancers.
I've had one go off to speak to their supervisor and match competitors by slashing a third off the quote.
Don't know where their limit of negotiation is, but I know for a fact they marked a policy up for me by 50% while some brokers have a sensible fixed brokerage of 10 to 20 quid

Insured the van this time and the conversation is identical. Last year £235 this year £280. Phone up saying I can get it 223 guess what instant match. One time a young lad let slip how much the lowest he could go was instead of the premium. £115!!! Utter utter utter w*"*&$'$!.shop around

They are only a corner shop selling chocolate.
If you get a bad mars bar go bother mars. Or look for a snickers instead.

If you want a cheap one go to Aldi.
