Hi Everyone,
I’m new here, and we’ve just acquired a 2004 RR Vogue 4.4 V8. The previous owner had to change the battery, and I’m suspecting this is the cause of the blank sat nav screen, although unconfirmed. The previous owner said it had suddenly become intermittent, but we’ve not seen it on at all since we took it 4 days ago.

The screen is backlit but blank. We’ve tried pulling fuse 49 for a while, and no fix. We’ve had a look at the sat nav unit in the rear left of the boot. The connections to the unit have been cleaned just in case but didn’t show any signs of corrosion. However, whilst husband was digging about he did find some corrosion on connectors going to a unit that looked like an amplifier, however unconfirmed if that’s its actual job. We cleaned them up and again no change.

The GPS unit does have the little red power light on. I’m suspecting the GPS unit or the head unit itself has been fried? What do fellow owners with more experience than me think? Would a battery reset done correctly help at all, or is it more terminal now?

I’m sure I also read among my research that it can battery dying or being changed that can cause issues with the headlight wipers and when I checked them only the drivers side is working. I don’t know if that’s useful info or irrelevant.

Thanks in advance
Nicky

Hi Nicky, sounds like the old water Ingress in rear compartment, is the orange light still on in the head unit?

Think on l233 before disconnecting the battery you have to wait for sat nav to shut down which is when red power light goes out if you dont and disconnect battery straight away it kills the unit and only option then is new or secondhand replacement.

Without meaning to sound rude, so please don't take it as such. The blank screen has been answered in depth on here. It sounds like you already have done the search,so you will have seen all the answers on those threads.Unless someone has a miraculous new solution, you won't get any different answers by starting another thread, as those above show.

You always sound rude!!:p;)

Hiding!!

I understand why you wouldn’t want a repeat thread revived - I only asked the question because the other threads I have read have slightly different symptoms - eg one has the radio stuck on mute. Looks like a new head unit is in order.

So checked the GPS unit a bit more thoroughly, red light is on when the car is opened, i can hear the disc spinning, i sat in the car whilst OH locked it up and the red light stayed on for about 30 seconds then went off.
Did a bit more digging around the NSR quarter and found a Lear Amp, XQK00030, some corrosion on the smaller black connector.
On the silver unit to the right of it, which I’m guessing is the entertainment unit, there is water corrosion to the blue connector, not the white.

I’ve tried electrical cleaner and wipe over to no avail, is there a better way of cleaning these that more experienced owners can suggest please? 7B9A324C-7640-46DA-8FBF-C3506A5ECBE8.jpegBA4136AF-20E1-4D5E-BCCB-603713CE9941.jpeg86E62F6E-DD36-4F93-A77F-56B13E0FAC2A.jpegC74B0CDF-10F3-4CEA-B310-AF429CE6DEA5.jpeg

Those videos are really useful thanks- well fixed the problem- it was due to the corrosion on the blue connector on the silver entrainment unit in the boot- thank you to everyone for all help and patience.

Well done,
You may wish to invest in the high tech solution that LR invested so much resources into trying to counter this serious build quality flaw,
" a plastic bag ".

It has the LR logo so at least it will look cool and proper.

Hate to be serious, but don't the things in the pics have big heatsink vanes on the outside to dissipate the heat? Did LR supply a heat resistant bag?
