I was only trying to say he had some bollocks to try and remove and strip the ZF 5HP24 on his own, where it went after that is not down to me :D

when was the last time anyone actually solved a Range Rover related problem on this forum ??
I think there is only 4 of us here, somebody pops up occasionally to start a thread, realises we are all off our fooking tits and then fecks off to FFRR !! o_Oo_O

I suspect that more gratuitous photos of 5HP24 transmission internals is probably what’s needed here

I think some issues are resolved BUT there is a lot of banter between suggestions or solutions. Part of the reason being that it takes a certain type of character to be a long term owner of the green oval, in any guise. Also some of us , whilst never having met, feel a certain kindredship with those who have saved us hundreds, if not thousands of pounds in repair bills and helped us, with advice, humour or both, through some hair pulling issues with our vehicles. As such the humour and craziness seeps onto the pages.
Don't forget we were all new here at some point and found our way here because we needed help , with our vehs. I don't know about the rest of you but I came for the help and stayed because I got great help, great support and great banter ;)
[Soppy mode off]

I could have taken that apart with my eyes closed......... now putting it together, well I wouldn't even have to bag the bits or label them, I would just throw them in the bin!

If I may throw in my 2 peneth. Dont be too quick to condem the box. When I bought mine last year I paid well under the odds as the owner was convinced the box was trashed. When warm it would shake and grind and make all kinds of wobbly noises, go into cooling mode after half an hour and generally be rubbish. He had me convinced it was on its last knockings but I still bought It because it looked the nuts. Any way, fast forward a few weeks after investigating Torque convertors with the help of Phil at ZF5HP transmissions, I changed out the rad and trans cooler (Thanks Saint for the guide) which fixed the cooling mode issue and at the same time I did this , noticed the trans oil was red. Three oil changes with the correct oil and a year later she is as smooth as silk. Story goes that previous owner had a replacement engine fitted and I recon who ever put the engine in changed the gearbox fluid with Dextron II which as we know is bad medicine for these boxes.
Moral of the story - eep it simple to start with, check the basics.....
