Hi All

Her Indoors has decreed that her Freelander (auto) needs a reversing camera. I got a cheapo wireless system, connecting the camera at the back was straightforward - I spliced into reversing light power at the light cluster.

But I have no idea where to start on finding power that comes on when reverse is selected to connect the screen on the dash. Any pointers on how to start on opening-up the dashboard trim and locating the front end of the reversing light power ?

Thanks

Would this not work off the gearbox reverse switch to the light, as the power to the box would not activate but after the switch engaged. Does the screen work okay been plugged into the cigarette lighter adapter. Because being wireless this should automatically come with any power source including cigarette lighter.

Yes, it works fine from the cigarette lighter - but I really don't want it on all the time as it makes a very distracting glow. The ideal would be for it to wake-up when reverse is selected.

Why not run a fused "control" wire from the rear to the front. That will be much easier than trying to find the correct wire in the harness, let alone splicing into the wire.

Yep, that would be an option. But then I loose all the advantage of a wireless system and might as well run the video cable forward while I am at it.

There is a connection to the reverse wiring at the audio system on the facelift model. This mutes the audio when reverse is selected. The colour you are looking for is Green with a Brown trace (GN).
Hope this helps.

Ah. Cool. I haven't noticed if the audio mutes when reverse is selected. What is the facelift model ?

The audio only mutes if PDC is connected and I think that is market depending too as mine doesn't mute.

The facelift is when the FL1 was revised, from chassis No 4A onwards, or 53 plate in the UK which won't be relevant for you.
