can anyone help? I have a series 3 military lwt 1971 with lots of play in steering. Will a series 3 109 steering box fit as a replacement as I have it available on my old 109
Cheers

As @Colthebrummie says, not just the steering box, but check all the steering linkages and track rod ends. Even a small amount of movement in each one will add up to a lot of overall steering movement. Then there's the swivel tightness, and bearings, wheel bearings ...

Sorry, don't know. You'll need to check the bolt mounting patterns and setup of the input and output shafts, if they're the same turns lock to lock etc.

Hi again been fixing all the electrics successfully until I found a single live wire which is disconnected from something. I traced the single wire and it leads to the cold start lamp. As it's a single wire what should it be connected too?
I've looked on my later 1978 series 3 and found there is two wires going to a cold start sensor so I'm somewhat confused as to why there is only one
Any help would be appreciated
Craig

Is yours a diesel then? Petrols had a little orange light that lit up when the choke was pulled out. They are a bit sensitive and tend to come on when hitting potholes, or at least mine does. I might disconnect mine the next time the clock pod is out.

Hi Colin it's a 1971 petrol engine. The 1978 I have too has got two cables going to a switch which is clamped on to the choke cable. The 71 has just one cable which is live dangling in the engine bay. The is also no clamp on switch hence my confusion

According to my series 3 wiring diagram, one wire from the lamp (white) goes to fuse contact 7 and the other wire (white/blue) goes to the switch. The other wire from the switch (white/yellow) goes to what is described as switch, cold start thermostat. That seems to be the same on a series 2a
