Good afternoon
I have just purchased a 1994 defender 110 project. It's completely open top apart from a roll cage and the
Windscreen. As it is,it wil just, with a couple of inches to spare, make it into my garage.
I am looking to fit a canvas top to it but think the hoops may just foul the top of the door frame.

Does anyone have the measurement from the top of a bog standard soft top hoop to the top of body
Capping on the bulkhead/firewall that runs side to side behind the passenger and drivers seat.

Just hoping it wont be any higher than the roll cage hoop.
Many thanks
Mark.

Hi, I just looked at mine. It's a military hoop with heavy roll bar kind. The roll bar is above the bulkhead behind the seats while the soft top hoop is forward of the bulkhead. The roll bar is higher than the hoop. The roll bar is 74cm from top to bulkhead. I don't know if any of this helps but I think the rear hoop is the highest part of the whole set up and mine measures 204cm from ground to top of hoop. I'm on 265/75 16 bfg's with standard suspension.

Hi Nick
THanks for that.
I had a local metal fabrication company reduce the height of my roll bar by a few centimetres.
This means that it will drive into the garage. Garage access 197cm high max.
Mine measures 66cm from the top of the bar to the top of the bulkhead.
Are your hood hoops higher than 66cm from hoop top to body capping?
If so I am in trouble height wise.
Thanks so much
Mark

The hoop is forward of the bulkhead but with a straight edge on the bulkhead then a tape measure up the the top of the hoop, I get 70cm. But as I said, the rear hoop over the tail gate is 204cm from top to the ground. Maybe a set of 205 tyres would drop you low enough

Nick.

Ideally I think you need 2.2m clearance to drive in comfortably. I think the 'book value' for a military soft top landy is 2.13m, I had similar concerns as my drive goes under my house/car port and the landy sits behind but no problem for me

HI Nick and Huddy
THank you for your replies. I don't think she will fit in with a hood stick set on.
BIkini top it is then and pray for good weather. At least I can keep her inside.
Thanks for taking the time to do some measuring Nick much appreciated.
Noticed that you are on Islay. I used to live in the outer Hebrides on North Uist.
Land Rover paradise on the islands.
Regards
Mark

Yes it's a Landy hotspot. But then the landrover Wilks family had an estate here so lots of land rover history.
